Fall is almost here, and for Ohio hunters that means checking gear, watching the weather, and getting ready for time in the woods. Whether you plan to sit in a tree stand, glass field edges, or listen for gobblers in the timber, a few simple steps now can help make your season safer and more enjoyable.

For fall turkey season, ODNR has changed what equipment hunters may use. Starting in fall 2026, turkey hunters may use sh****ns only; archery equipment will no longer be allowed.

ORPA High Power R***e Team Wins 3rd National Championship in 4 Years!
The 2026 Ohio R***e & Pistol Association High Power R***e season has once again been marked by exceptional team performances, as the Ohio Service R***e Team was able to claim its third Soldier of Marathon trophy in four years as the high placing state team during the National Trophy Team Match at Camp Perry. Team members Joe Hendricks Jr, Aaron Guliuzza, Andrew Griggs, Sara Rozanski, Roy Mitchell Jr, Serena Juchnowski and Tim Plowman managed difficult conditions to squeak out a very close win over Illinois to once again be able to walk the stage victorious. As captain and coach, Tim and Joe were named to the 2026 National Civilian “Root” R***e Team.
Individually, ORPA competitors Roy Mitchell Jr, Andrew Griggs, and Sabrina Smith made the elite President’s 100 shoot-off.

August 2nd the ORPA State Outdoor Pistol Championship was held at The Cardinal Center in Marengo, OH. The weather was excellent for a day of shooting. The Champion is Christopher Chisholm. The High Junior is Eli Kruger. The High Women is Eleanor Kopfstein. Congratulations to the top shooters. Thank you to all that came and shot.

We are sorry to hear about the passing of David Bowser, a previous State Champion in Ohio Pistol. David ran the matches at The Warren Gun Club. His friends and family are in our thoughts.

ORPA’s Third Outdoor Junior Smallbore Camp was Held at The Fish & Game Club of Vienna’s Outdoor Range. 16 Junior Smallbore Shooters attended. The average age was 14.5 yrs.
5 girls and 11 boys attended. 7 NRA Certified Coaches taught on the firing line, 5 from OH, 1 MI, & 1 NH.

Campers were refreshed with “SAFETY” the “Fundamentals of Firing a Shot” Prone, Standing, Kneeling, and Sitting positions @ 50 yards. How to shoot Prone @ 100 yards, Mental training, R***e cleaning, How to Score Outdoor Targets, How to read a rule book. Practice matches were held with a 3 position & Prone Dewar Camp Match held on the end of the week.
Agg. Match Winners were: Sophia Garito 1 st Place Match 913,12X, James McHugh 2 nd Match 912-17X, AJ Neuschler 3 rd Match 884-16X.

3 Position Match winners were: Savannah Osmon 1 st 3 Position 492-06X, and Maryellen Holbrook 2 nd 3P with 488-02X.

Prone Dewar winners were: Kaleb Belt 1 st Dewar 381-08X and Riley Lutz 2 nd Dewar 378-06X.

The camp was sponsored by ORPA, the CMP, Fish & Game Club of Vienna, The Sportsman’s Foundation “Ohio Gun Collectors Assoc”.

Six of the camp attendees shot in the National Matches @ Camp Perry the following week, with 13 year old Logan Kitzmiller taking a Second Place in his age group at the Prone Nationals Matches.
