Early Childhood Resource Center We have two satellite offices located in Akron and Boardman.

The Early Childhood Resource Center is a ministry of the Sisters of Charity Health System and primarily provides resources to families, children, and educators in the following Ohio counties: Stark, Summit, Medina, Portage, Trumbull, and Mahoning. The mission of the Early Childhood Resource Center is to promote the healthy development of young children by strengthening families, improving the qual

ity of early learning experiences, increasing school and community readiness, and informing public policy. The Early Childhood Resource Center primarily provides resources to families in the following Ohio counties: Stark, Summit, Medina, Portage, Trumbull, and Mahoning. The Center’s primary location, which houses our Inspiration Station, Production Lab, children’s library, outdoor playscape, and other spaces open to the public, is located in Canton. Vision: The Early Childhood Resource Center is a leader, recognized for working together with community partners to ensure:
• Parents have the knowledge and resources to support their children’s healthy development;
• Children have access to high-quality early learning experiences staffed by educated professionals;
• Children begin school ready and eager to learn;
• Schools are ready to receive, educate, engage, and involve all children and families; and
• Communities and policymakers understand and actively support the development of young children.

Join us for a fun family experience at the Canton Museum of Art in this workshop with the Early Childhood Resource Center in partnership with the Canton Museum of Art.

Inspired by the rhythm and emotion found in the Good Times: The Artistic Journey of Ernie Barnes exhibition at the museum, families with children aged birth to 3-years-old (siblings welcome) will explore the joy of working with clay in one of the museum’s art studios.

Looking to feed your family healthy foods or sharpen your cooking skills?

Join the Expanded Food and Nutrition Education Program, a free program in partnership with The Ohio State University, where parents can learn how to eat healthier and be more active, no matter what their budget.

During the weekly in-person classes, you’ll engage in discussion, exercise, and recipe preparation as you learn to:

✅ Make healthier food choices
✅ Plan and shop for healthy meals that fit your budget
✅ Keep your family food safe
✅ Participants receive a take-home tool at each lesson and a graduation certificate from The Ohio State University after completing the series.

This summer, the Early Childhood Resource Center partnered with community organizations across Stark County to create four family events that brought learning, laughter, and connection to local children and caregivers. Together, we welcomed almost 150 adults and children for a series of activities designed to encourage reading, exploration, creativity, safety, and community engagement.

While each event offered its own unique experience, all four shared a common goal: bring families together to strengthen connections throughout the community.

These events demonstrated what is possible when organizations work together in support of children and families. We are grateful to our partners at Stark Library, Stark Parks, the Canton City Fire Department, the Canton Police Department (Ohio) , and all the individuals who helped make the events possible.

Special thanks to the Stark Community Foundation SummerTime Kids Initiative, whose generous funding made all four events possible. Their investment helped create meaningful experiences for local families and strengthened the sense of community that continues long after summer ends.

The Early Childhood Resource Center is pleased to announce a $150,000 investment from the GAR Foundation in support of our SPARK kindergarten readiness program for 3- and 4-year-old children.

SPARK Ohio of Stark and Summit County helps families in Akron and across Summit and Stark counties access support to ensure their children’s success. SPARK Parent Partners visit the home monthly to deliver lessons and activities aligned with Ohio’s Early Learning and Development Standards. They work with their parents to develop a learning plan to ensure that the child will enter kindergarten ready and excited for school.
