🌟 Toastmasters SPOTLIGHT: Meet Dave! 🌟
"From New Member to Confident Contributor"
This month, we’re excited to shine the spotlight on Dave, who recently joined Stark Community Toastmasters after being a member of Toastmasters for about a year and a half.
When asked about his first experience, he remembers it vividly:
“My first experience? Terrifying — in the best possible way. I walked in not knowing what to expect and left wondering why I waited so long. The people made all the difference. Nobody laughed at me (well, maybe a little during Table Topics), and everyone is genuinely rooting for me to succeed.”
When asked what brought him to Toastmasters, Dave said,
“Honestly, a mix of things. I wanted to get better at public speaking, grow as a leader, and — if I'm being real — I was hoping to meet some interesting people. Turns out I hit the jackpot on all three. The interesting people part especially.”
Dave reflected on his growth in Toastmasters:
“I've completed a couple of levels in the Pathways program, taken on meeting roles I never would have volunteered for before, and somehow managed to speak in front of a room full of people without completely falling apart. It is a genuinely empowering experience.”
Looking ahead, Dave’s focus remains on growth and leadership:
“I want to keep pushing myself outside my comfort zone — whether that's taking on more leadership roles, tackling tougher speech projects, or just showing up consistently and being a good resource for newer members the way people were for me when I started.”
One of his biggest takeaways has been the power of community.
“The community is the secret ingredient. You can watch YouTube videos on public speaking all day, but there's nothing like having a room full of supportive people who genuinely want to see you grow. Also — Table Topics will humble you every single time, and that's kind of the point.”
For anyone considering joining Toastmasters, Dave offers this advice:
“Just come to a meeting. You don't have to speak, you don't have to commit — just show up and see what it's about. The worst thing that happens is you spend an hour with some really good people. There are worse ways to spend a Thursday morning.”
Thank you, Dave, for sharing your Toastmasters journey with us. We’re glad to have you in our community! 🎤
