🌟 Toastmasters SPOTLIGHT: Meet Dave! 🌟
"From New Member to Confident Contributor"

This month, we’re excited to shine the spotlight on Dave, who recently joined Stark Community Toastmasters after being a member of Toastmasters for about a year and a half.

When asked about his first experience, he remembers it vividly:
“My first experience? Terrifying — in the best possible way. I walked in not knowing what to expect and left wondering why I waited so long. The people made all the difference. Nobody laughed at me (well, maybe a little during Table Topics), and everyone is genuinely rooting for me to succeed.”

When asked what brought him to Toastmasters, Dave said,
“Honestly, a mix of things. I wanted to get better at public speaking, grow as a leader, and — if I'm being real — I was hoping to meet some interesting people. Turns out I hit the jackpot on all three. The interesting people part especially.”

Dave reflected on his growth in Toastmasters:
“I've completed a couple of levels in the Pathways program, taken on meeting roles I never would have volunteered for before, and somehow managed to speak in front of a room full of people without completely falling apart. It is a genuinely empowering experience.”

Looking ahead, Dave’s focus remains on growth and leadership:
“I want to keep pushing myself outside my comfort zone — whether that's taking on more leadership roles, tackling tougher speech projects, or just showing up consistently and being a good resource for newer members the way people were for me when I started.”

One of his biggest takeaways has been the power of community.
“The community is the secret ingredient. You can watch YouTube videos on public speaking all day, but there's nothing like having a room full of supportive people who genuinely want to see you grow. Also — Table Topics will humble you every single time, and that's kind of the point.”

For anyone considering joining Toastmasters, Dave offers this advice:
“Just come to a meeting. You don't have to speak, you don't have to commit — just show up and see what it's about. The worst thing that happens is you spend an hour with some really good people. There are worse ways to spend a Thursday morning.”

Thank you, Dave, for sharing your Toastmasters journey with us. We’re glad to have you in our community! 🎤

Toastmasters Member SPOTLIGHT: Meet Ying
✨ Embracing a New Challenge ✨

This week, we’re excited to welcome and spotlight one of our newer members, Ying! 🎤✨

Ying has been in Toastmasters for about a month and shared, “The first experience is great and everyone is so welcome.”

When asked what brought you to Toastmasters, Ying said,
“My friend Colleen Beller talked about it and I needed a new challenge.” 💡

Even though Ying is just getting started, she said:
“I haven’t achieved anything yet but did do my first table topic. Excited for what’s to come.” 👏

Ying's current goals within Toastmasters are to:
“Get comfortable with speaking in public and learn how to organize my thoughts while speaking.”

One of the biggest takeaways from the experience so far:
“it’s a welcoming and safe environment.”

We’re so glad to have Ying as part of our Toastmasters family and can’t wait to see all that’s ahead on this journey of growth and confidence! 🌟

Interested in improving your public speaking, building confidence, or trying something new? Come check out our club! We meet every Thursday at 7:30 AM and would love to welcome you. 😊

Toastmasters Member SPOTLIGHT: Meet David

Growing in confidence, leadership, and connection—one meeting at a time. 🎤

When asked about his experience with Toastmasters, Dave shared, “I have been part of toastmasters for about a year and a half. I was excited about joining the group and found everyone to be welcoming... It was wonderful that people worked together to see everyone succeed and grow. It was a safe place to develop as a speaker and leader.”

Dave shared what first drew his attention to the club: “I work in the building where our club meets. I had seen the sign for the meetings dozens of times but never taken the initiative to visit. I would often hear laughter and applause come from the room and thought “this is a group I would like to learn more about.”"

When reflecting on what Toastmasters has meant to him, Dave said, “Toastmasters is a place you both give and receive. I have been able to give encouragement and gain friendships. I have shared wisdom from life experiences and received guidance from people who care about me. There are opportunities to develop leadership skills and learn from others who are doing the same.”

He explained how Toastmasters has helped him grow as a communicator: “As a Pastor, I do a lot of public speaking. I also lead a lot of meetings. I am often asked to speak “in the moment”. I’ve never felt I do a good job at that. I have an idea in the back of my mind that I ramble stammer over myself to express. Toastmasters helps me share confidently and concisely.”

For anyone who may feel nervous about attending for the first time, Dave offered this encouragement: “Joining a new group can be intimidating. It’s difficult to walk into a new place without knowing anyone or having any experience. Understand that Toastmasters is a safe encouraging group that wants everyone to succeed. There is no competition among people, only support. A person is welcome to come and observe for as long as they wish. It won’t take long until you move from intimidation to confidence!”

And when asked what he would say to someone considering Toastmasters, he shared, “One of the biggest fears people have is public speaking. We hold back because we are afraid of embarrassing ourselves or failing. At Toastmasters I have seen people develop confidence and crash through those barriers of fear and self doubt. And one other thing…it’s fun! The club is wonderful group of people who enjoy being around one another and would love to make one more friend—YOU!”

👏 Thank you, Dave, for sharing your story and helping make Toastmasters such a welcoming and encouraging place for others to grow.

Toastmasters Member SPOTLIGHT: Meet Jeff
"Jumping In Head First: A Journey of Growth and Purpose"

This week, we’re excited to spotlight one of our newer members who has already embraced the Toastmasters experience!

Having joined in January of 2026 after exploring a couple clubs in October 2025, Jeff shares, “Both clubs were very welcoming. I was impressed with the overall camaraderie of the groups!”

That first impression clearly made an impact—and set the tone for what was to come.

Jeff came in with intention and purpose:
“I decided to join Toastmasters in an effort to hone my public speaking skills and become more intentional with delivering my message.”

He didn’t waste any time getting involved.
“So far, I have completed my icebreaker speech and I am working on delivering a speech with purpose. I have also held various meeting roles. I definitely wanted to jump in head first.”

Looking ahead, Jeff’s goals are rooted in growth and impact:
“My current goals that I believe being a member will help me achieve are:
Teaching me how to effectively communicate a clear thought stream to leave an impact on others through avenues such as social media, speaking opportunities, and writing projects.”

When reflecting on his experience so far, Jeff shares a perspective many members can relate to:
“You’re being judged. 😂😂 But, in the best way possible. For me the whole point of taking on this side quest was for the constructive criticism delivered through evaluation. Allow yourself room to grow and take in every suggestion possible. Everyone in the room is here for growth!”

For anyone considering joining, he shares:
“Fear is an illusion. Everything new takes time and repetition to get good at. Adopt the mindset of a 7 year old playing T-ball. They don’t care if they’re any good at it. They just want to have fun living in a new experience!”

👏 Thank you Jeff, for inspiring us to embrace growth, have fun, and trust the learning process.

Toastmasters Member SPOTLIGHT: Meet Andrew

Falling in love with the power of communication—one speech at a time. 🎤

Meet one of our dedicated members whose journey with Toastmasters spans over a decade—filled with growth, purpose, and passion.
“I’ve been in Toastmasters for over a decade, on and off. From my very first experience, I fell in love with the art and power of communication.”

That passion led Andrew to take a deeper step:
“I wanted to elevate my communication skills. I always knew I had something to say—I just didn’t always have the words to express it effectively.”

Through consistency and commitment, that voice became stronger and more impactful.
“I’ve grown into a more confident and effective communicator, been invited to present at various venues, and developed the ability to communicate clearly in any setting.”

Now, his focus is not only on personal growth—but empowering others as well.
“My current goals are to help new members strengthen their communication skills and find their voice, while continuing to sharpen my own for the next chapter of my life.”

Andrew’s biggest takeaway is a powerful reminder for us all: “Effective communication is a marathon, not a sprint. It doesn’t develop overnight—it takes consistency, patience, and a commitment to keep improving.”

And for anyone thinking about joining:
“If you want to become a stronger communicator—for yourself, your family, or your future—and you’re looking for a supportive environment to grow, join Toastmasters. It’s an investment in yourself that can truly change your life.”

👏 Thank you Andrew, for inspiring us and continuing to make an impact through your leadership and voice!
