FYI: don’t use the new carts until 7/29.

FYI: don’t use the new carts until 7/29.

Beginning Monday, July 29, Priority Waste will be providing automated collection of garbage to Canton residents utilizing ADA-compliant, 95-gallon carts. The new carts will replace the current collection protocol of using 32-gallon containers and garbage bags at the curb.

It’s important to note, garbage collection is the only thing changing under Priority Waste. Residents will continue to utilize their current recycling cart for recyclables and yard waste will still be collected in paper yard waste bags or 32-gallon cans. Only garbage bags will go in the new carts.

Delivery of 95-gallon carts will begin this week. We realize people may be on vacation at the time of delivery. Please work with your friends and neighbors on rolling carts to the top of the driveway until they return home. We’ve also asked HOAs to consider relaxing storage guidelines until homeowners can work out a storage solution.

Although you will receive your cart before July 29, please DO NOT use it until the week of July 29. Any cart put at the curb before July 29 will NOT be collected.

PLEASE NOTE: If your HOA was pre-approved for a 65-gallon cart, you won’t receive your new cart until AFTER July 29 due to a delay from the manufacture. Collection in these areas will be done manually until the new 65-gallon carts are delivered. Delivery is anticipated to begin Monday, August 12. Please check with your HOA on your approval status or call Municipal Services at 394-5160.

Beginning July 29, Priority Waste will be providing automated collection of garbage to Canton residents utilizing ADA-compliant, 95-gallon carts. Please note, although you’ll receive your new cart in early July, DO NOT put it out until July 29. Any cart put out before July 29, WILL NOT be collected.

The waste hauling contract is one of the largest contracts Canton has and we understand this change will generate a lot of questions. To view a list of “Frequently Asked Questions” as well as the new collection guidelines, visit www.cantonmi.gov/216.
