Without a 4% Targeted Inflationary Increase (TII), nonprofit providers cannot sustain the essential services that New Yorkers with intellectual and developmental disabilities rely on every day.

And we know one thing clearly: investment works.

Recent state funding has already made a real impact:

⬇️ 44% decrease in DSP vacancies
⬇️ 6% reduction in staff turnover
⬆️ 28.6% increase in starting wages

We cannot afford to lose the ground we’ve gained. Sustained investment is the only way to keep up with rising costs, and ensure quality, person-centered care continues.

It is time Governor Kathy Hochul and the legislature fully recognize the impact the non-profit providers and the Direct Support Professionals on their teams have on reducing costs of care. CP State New York Disability Advocates

Direct Support Professionals are the backbone of care for people in our communities with IDD diagnosis. They provide more than assistance, they build trust, promote independence, and ensure people live with dignity and purpose. It is time NYS recognizes their impact and support them the way they support others. CP State New York Disability Advocates

New York's I/DD community includes some of our state's most vulnerable residents, and they rely on a multitude of services and workers to live independently and safely. Let's help contribute to them feeling secure by investing in their future.

Please continue to advocate for investment in our Direct Support Professional (DSP) team. New York State can and must do better. It's not too late to contact your legislator or the Governor herself.

New York's I/DD system is under extraordinary strain. Years of inconsistent funding have chipped away at its stability, making the gaps harder to fill. To ensure a stable care system, the New York legislature must prioritize continued investment for individuals with I/DD.
