NPO's National Board Chair Don Hubin wrote a stellar piece published yesterday in the Springfield News-Sun addressing how Ohio is misaligned with the Ohio people on how children should be raised, and how SB174, currently in the legislature, is a step in the wrong direction. It's a good read, please read and share!

Mahatma Gandhi famously said, “If the people will lead, the leaders will follow.” On many issues, the people are ahead of their leaders. So it is with family law reform

Once primary elections are over next week we expect the Ohio legislature will be back at the Statehouse-this means that Senate Bill 174 will be up for discussion once again. As a reminder, this bill is not a "family friendly" bill, and it maintains the very same policies that have failed Ohio's families for decades--but with expanded authority! We must oppose this bill and do it loudly. Tell your Ohio Representative to kill this bill and champion TRUE family court reforms.

Here's a link to a recent video that summarizes the background of this bill - where it came from and why! Like and share!

Please take 2 minutes to follow this link and email your Ohio Senator to tell them NO! on SB174, the Judges' Bill. It's a bill written by family court judges and is backed by the divorce industry. This bill is not family or child-friendly at all! It continues the status quo of sidelining fit parents while increasing the courts power to do as they please. They can even override the agreements of fit parents -- this is very dangerous for all Ohioans.

Nearly nine out of ten Ohioans believe that children have the right to spend equal or near equal time with both parents after divorce or separation*Only one in six parenting time orders in Ohio provide at least 90 overnights for each parent (less...

The Judges are at it again and they've secured a hearing on their bill SB174 for TOMORROW 4/30/25 in the Senate Judiciary Committee. More information will be forthcoming, but here's a quick sheet for the bullet point concerns with this bill.

Make no mistake, SB174 was written by the judges for the judges. We've had a copy of this very bill for a few years now, provided to us by the judges themselves through their lobbyist in the Ohio Judicial Conference.

This bill is judicial overreach and must be blocked. We must unite to stop this tyranny.

Call your Senators, as the Judges have once again lobbied to have their bill -- that they wrote for themselves -- introduced. It's the same bill as last time-- removing "parental rights" altogether from custody statute and giving themselves "complete discretion" over parenting plans. It's egregious. Go to the bills Legiscan page and read it for yourself and comment your thoughts.

Public Comments (2025-04-09) Regards allocation of parenting responsibilities [Referred to committee: Judiciary]

Two parents equally involved in children's lives has been clearly established to be in the "best interest of children." Parental rights and the rights for children to be raised by two loving parents are synonymous. Fit and loving parents ARE what's best for children, and we should protect their fundamental rights to association with one another.

Watch this Ohio Representative make a defense for parents on the House floor last General Assembly. He was speaking about parent's rights to make school decisions for their children, but the same logic applies to family courts where fit parents lose custody simply because a judge/magistrate thinks it's "best." They apply an ambiguous "standard" with the lowest possible threshold of evidence there is, with copious discretion to do what they want to do ... certainly NOT subject to strict scrutiny as SCOTUS laid out years ago.

Yesterday began a new General Assembly in Ohio, let's see if they honor their words this next go around. Contact your Representative and Senator and tell them now is the time to do something.

At NPO we believe in shared parenting after divorce or separation — having both parents actively involved in the lives of their children — because studies show it's what is best for children and society as a whole. With your help we can accomplish our mission to bring family court reform to every state in the nation, with a presumption of shared parenting after divorce or separation. We are looking to raise $10,000 this Giving Tuesday to support our efforts ...
