CERV - Please take a few minutes...

Over the past few years I have been blessed to meet many of you who have signed up for this CERV email. We live in a fabulous and charitable community. And today I write to ask for five minutes of your time.  As many of you know, the history and culture of Canton is one of my priorities. The Commun...

Storm Tips.

Many of us could lose power at some point Saturday. Some of us may be without power for a few days. The number for Eversource is 800-592-2000.

Here is a list of some steps you should be taking to prepare…

-Gas up this morning !
-Have enough nonperishable food and water.
-Have a manual can opener
-Batteries? Flashlights? Candles? Radio?
-Cell phone fully charged.
-Turn heat up a little to give yourself a few more hours of comfort or a few more hours before the pipes freeze.
-Carbon monoxide detectors with battery backup in central locations on every level of your home.
-bottled water

DURING AN OUTAGE
PREPARATION FOR POWER OUTAGE PART II:
Safety checklist:
-Stay away from any downed power lines or sparking equipment.
-Never use a gas stovetop or oven to heat your home.
-Check on your elderly neighbors.
-Consider avoiding the use of candles. This is due to the fire risk. Use extreme caution if you must use candles.
-Operate portable generators outdoors and at least 20 feet away from windows to avoid carbon monoxide poisoning.
Convenience checklist:
-Keep freezers and refrigerators closed. The refrigerator will keep food cold for about four hours. A full freezer will keep the temperature for about 48 hours.
-Use coolers with ice if necessary.
-Use a thermometer in the refrigerator and freezer so you can know the temperature when the power
outage is over.
-Go to a community location with power if heat or cold is extreme.

Protecting your electronic devices:
Turn off or disconnect appliances, equipment, or electronics. Power may return with momentary “surges” or “spikes” that can cause damage.

Massachusetts Gov. Charlie Baker announced Tuesday, December 8th that all communities will return to Phase 3 Step 1 beginning Sunday.

Moving back to Phase 3 Step 1 will close certain businesses including indoor performance and high contact indoor recreational facilities. It will reduce the capacity to 40% for most open industries and restaurant tables will return to a maximum of six people.

Limits on outdoor gatherings at event venues will go from 100 to 50. Anyone hosting private outdoor gatherings of over 25 people will have to notify their local board of health.

Other regulation changes include when eating indoors at a restaurant, patrons will now have to wear masks unless they are eating and drinking. This means when patrons order, both they and the waiter will be masked.
