Passover commemorates the liberation of the Israelites from slavery in ancient Egypt. Celebrated over eight days, the holiday begins with the Seder, a ritual meal during which families retell the story of the Exodus through readings, symbolic foods, and songs. Central themes of Passover include freedom, resilience, and gratitude. Many of its traditions such as eating matzah (unleavened bread) and avoiding leavened products, serve as reminders of the Israelites’ hurried departure from Egypt. Beyond honoring a foundational moment in Jewish history, Passover also invites reflection on the enduring importance of freedom and justice in every generation. From a Canton Diversity, Equity and Inclusion Committee perspective, we are reminded to welcome others with compassion, to uplift diverse voices, and to build communities rooted in understanding and respect.
May this season inspire us across traditions to deepen our faith, strengthen our connections, and continue the work of creating a more just and inclusive world for all. Wishing all who celebrate a blessed and meaningful Passover.
