Eskies Online Visit our website: http://www.eskiesonline.com. We are a dog rescue organization, not a shelter.

We are an American Eskimo and Multi-breed dog rescue located in the Northeast, serving Maine, New Hampshire, New York State, Rhode Island, Connecticut and surrounding areas. Eskies Online is a 501(C)(3), non-profit organization that rescues homeless American Eskimo Dogs, along with Multi-Breed and mixed breed dogs, and finds qualified, permanent, adoptive homes for them. The dogs are rescued from

animal shelters, humane societies, situations of neglect and cruelty, owners who can no longer give their dogs a home. Our dogs live in temporary foster homes where volunteers and staff help these dogs prepare for new families. In the foster home environment, we are able to evaluate the dog's temperament and behavior patterns away from the stress of shelter life. Eskies Online is funded entirely through adoption fees, donations and the generosity our volunteers.

A Medieval Faire Queen Finds Her Kingdom 👑

We just began our second year participating in the Connecticut Robin Hood Medieval Faire at the invitation of Cassandra Eber, and this season has already brought us a story worthy of the ages.

Our Suri quickly became a favorite at the Faire. Whether she was greeting visitors at the EOL Rescue booth or posing proudly on the throne in her tiny crown, she seemed perfectly at home among the knights, merchants, and merrymakers.

While working our booth, Jeremy introduced Suri to a Faire attendee named Jeannette.

It was love at first sight.

Jeannette couldn't stop thinking about Suri, but there was one very important member of the family who still needed to weigh in—her dog, Nitro.

The following Monday, Jeannette brought Nitro to our property for a meet-and-greet.

We needn't have worried.

Suri and Nitro immediately hit it off. Tails wagged, noses touched, and before long it was obvious they had already decided what the humans were still discussing.

The match was perfect.

Today, Suri is settling into her new life with Jeannette and Nitro, where she has traded her Renaissance throne for a forever home and a canine best friend.

Rescue is often about timing. Sometimes a dog waits months or years for the right family. Sometimes all it takes is a chance meeting at a Medieval Faire, a thoughtful introduction, and two dogs deciding they belong together.

Congratulations to Jeannette, Nitro, and our sweet Suri on the beginning of a wonderful new chapter.

And thank you to Cassandra Eber and the Connecticut Robin Hood Medieval Faire for welcoming us back and helping us create one more happily-ever-after.
Long live Queen Suri. 👑❤️

🌪️ A WHIRLWIND OF A WEEKEND🌪️

While Jeremy was out for some much-needed R&R, Michele took the reins and ushered in one whirlwind of a weekend here at the Homestead.

What started last week as a status quo Friday, quickly turned into one of those weekends that reminds us rescue work is never boring…

During our Saturday morning adoption, a hella sized windstorm brought down a massive tree limb onto the power lines in front of the rescue, sparking a fire and knocking out power across the property.

For three long hours, we watched and waited while strong winds threatened to spread the flames. Thankfully, the fire department and utility crews eventually arrived, and by 2:00 AM Sunday morning, power was restored.

Just in time for Sunday's adoptions.

As if that wasn't enough, our printer surrendered its will to live, right before we needed to print adoption paperwork.

Michele navigated all of these crises like a ninja. Not only was every animal fed, cared for, and loved, but she sent Pedro and Gordo off to their new homes.

Oh, and our grand transporter, Sue Ward brought us a new dog, because a weekend this nuts definitely needed one more dog.

Welcome, Chinook who appears to be a mini-Husky. At 5 months old, he is barely 20 lbs! He will be available for adoption soon.

Weekends like this don't happen because of one person. They happen because of a team that shows up when things get hard.

A huge thank you to Michele, our staff, volunteers, adopters, supporters, transport partners, and everyone who helps us keep moving forward even when the wheels threaten to come off the wagon.

The fire is out.

The power is back.

The dogs are safe.

Pedro and Gordo are home.

Chinook has a chance at a forever home.

Gordo: From Frumpy to Fabulous

I don't think there's a breed that reaps more benefits from a makeover than the Poodle.

Our Gordo is fresh from the groomer, where he received the full spa treatment and charmed everyone in the salon.

At just 1 year old, he has a rescue story already. A cleaning lady gave him to her client, and that woman gave him to my friend, Judy, who gave him to us.

This poor boy has been bounced around like a hot potato and doesn't know where he fits in this world. He needs a family of his own.

In the meantime, he has glommed onto Jeremy, and we have a new soprano in the chorus.

One Thing Leads to Another, Part 4:
Re*****on and Roderick at the Farm

If I am ever reincarnated, I hope I come back as one of Karen Larsen’s dogs. In nearly three decades in rescue, I have met many dedicated people, but Karen is someone I admire deeply.

Karen and her husband, Andy, run Liberty Farms in Massachusetts, a multi-species sanctuary for farm animals. Their days begin before dawn and rarely slow—feeding, grooming, and tending to the veterinary needs of countless animals, all while maintaining full-time careers. It is, quite simply, a labor of love that never ends.

We have been fortunate to know Karen and Andy as adopters over the years. They have welcomed several dogs from us into their home—often the ones who required a little extra patience and care.

So when Karen reached out about adopting again, I thought I might finally make things easy for her. Knowing her fondness for setters, I suggested Re*****on.

Re*****on, a stunning Irish Setter, came to us from a southern backyard breeder where proper nutrition was not a priority. He arrived with a calcium deficiency, and at just four months old, he suffered a broken leg simply stepping out of a car. Despite that rough beginning, his spirit never wavered.

When Karen planned her visit to meet Re*****on, I had a quiet hope in mind—I wanted her to meet Roderick as well.

Roderick, a Gordon Setter, had also come from a breeder. He was born with a congenital defect that made him unsellable, and so he found his way to us instead. Like Re*****on, he proved to be exceptionally gentle and kind. Both dogs became what we often call “helper dogs,” offering comfort and stability to the many new arrivals passing through our care.

In time, it became clear that both Re*****on and Roderick deserved more than life within the constant motion of a busy rescue. They deserved a home where they could simply be loved and enjoy the fullness of life.

Karen, as she so often does, rose to the occasion—and took them both.

Today, Re*****on and Roderick are living exactly the life we had hoped for them. They are safe, cherished, and very much at home at Liberty Farms, often seen enjoying their days alongside Layla and Benji. The updates we receive are a joy, and we could not be more grateful.

Some families truly earn a gold star—and Karen, Andy and Frankie are certainly among them.

One Thing Led to Another…
Part 3: Layla & Benji’s Love Story

By now, Layla was living her best life.
Adventure. Space. Her person.

But Frankie had a thought…

What if Layla needed a partner in crime?

When he got wind of Aurora’s Doberman-Husky puppies—born right here on Halloween 2024—it didn’t take long to connect the dots.

Aurora’s pup Daemon transformed into Layla’s Benji.

Now, Layla may have been five years old…But her inner puppy? Very much alive and well.

Benji’s full-throttle puppy antics could have overwhelmed the wrong dog, but Layla? She was all in.

This one was easy.

No drama. No adjustment period. No negotiations.

They just… clicked.

Side by side, step for step—Layla and Benji fell right into rhythm.

A ready-made duo.
A perfect match.

Stay tuned… because this story still has one more chapter.

One Thing Leads to Another…
Part 2: Layla’s Big Life

While Duchess was settling into her quiet Florida retirement…

Layla was just getting started. Layla wasn’t a bad dog. She was just… a lot of dog.

Energy for days. Opinions. Speed. Zero interest in sitting quietly while life happened around her.

In the wrong setting, that kind of spirit can look like chaos.

In the right setting? It looks like magic.

We see it all the time—families add a puppy during a season of noise, change, and not nearly enough time. The puppy grows up the only way he or she can. Fast. Unfiltered. Untethered.

Once Duchess was safely on her way, it was Layla’s turn.

We spent a little time with her and quickly realized—this girl didn’t need less energy… Layla needed a life big enough to match it.

Along came Frankie, the athlete!

We knew him through his mom, Karen—one of our longtime adopters—so we already knew the kind of active life Layla was stepping into.

And it was exactly the one she’d been waiting for.

Suddenly, Layla had space, purpose, and adventure!

Hiking trails. Open land. Room to run, play, and just be herself. And just like that…the “too much” dog became the perfect dog.

These days, we get updates that make us smile every single time.

Layla, out on another adventure. Living the life she was always meant for.

Stay tuned… because Layla’s story doesn’t end here.

One Thing Leads to Another: Part 1 – Layla & Duchess (Frenemies)

The Duchess was living large in New York City with her young owners when her world first began to unravel.

First, there was a baby.

That baby became a toddler.

Then… another baby.

And finally—because why not—a rambunctious hound puppy named Layla, who quickly outgrew her in both size and enthusiasm.

By 2021, Duchess found herself quarantined in a small Brooklyn apartment with this cast of chaotic characters at the height of COVID. At 10 years old, she had to be wondering…

How, exactly, did all hell break loose?

Between dodging relentless toddler advances and surviving the full-contact sport that was puppy playtime, Duchess’ golden years were looking anything but golden.

Tensions boiled over.

And just like that, Duchess was discarded—along with her housemate, Layla—into the NYCACC shelter system.

For a 10-year-old, owner-surrendered dog, the clock doesn’t just tick… it sprints. Two days is often all they get.

But this time, our shelter contact reached out.

Duchess was slated for transport to Connecticut when we got the follow-up:

“She has a housemate here too…”
Of course she does.

And no—Duchess didn’t like her very much. Par for the course.

Still, Layla became Duchess’ plus-one, and the mismatched pair made their way north for a second shot at forever.

Our first move? Break them up.

Layla needed speed, playmates, and chaos of her own choosing. We placed her with other high-energy youngsters, and she thrived immediately.

Duchess, on the other hand, needed peace. Dignity. A soft landing.

After completing her vet work, we reached out to our longtime Doxie friends, Tami and Bruce Zeman. Their house was full—but as it turns out, fate had other plans.

Tami’s sister, Toni, stepped up and said yes.

Cue the road trip.

Forrest and I headed north to Vermont, where Duchess met new friends—Tami, Bruce, and their pack, including our beloved Zoey (NYCACC class of 2016).

From there, Tami carried the torch all the way to Florida, delivering Duchess straight into Toni’s arms.

No more New York chaos.
No more cold winters.

Just sunshine, peace, wardrobe, and the retirement she always deserved.

Stay tuned for Layla’s big adventure…

Oriola Queen

The first time I saw her shelter photo, something about her stopped me cold. There was a look in her eyes that just reached. It’s hard to fathom how an 8-week-old orphaned puppy could end up alone and unwanted in a North Carolina shelter—but there she was.

I didn’t hesitate. I pulled her immediately and named her after my great-grandmother—Oriola Queen. It felt fitting. Regal, a little mysterious, and impossible to ignore.

Transport was booked north on the Labylimo with Sue Ward.

But then—plot twist.

My Surry County contact, Kelly, casually mentioned, “She has five siblings here.”

Of course she does.

So naturally, I said, “Okay…send them too.” And just like that, a one-dog rescue turned into a six-dog intake. As these things tend to do.

Oriola’s family was…well, peculiar. Their look had us completely guessing, so we ran a DNA test.

Top breed: Poodle.

Seriously?

Then Chihuahua.

Okay…sure.

And most comically of all—Oriola and her crew registered 3% American Eskimo Dog. I suppose that should comfort our die-hard Eskie fans…if they can stop laughing long enough.

Oriola had all the charm you’d expect from that bewitching little face. Sweet, expressive, quietly captivating.

And yet—she was overlooked. Again and again.

Her siblings found homes, one by one, while Oriola waited.

Eight months.

Eight months of being the one not chosen. The one people passed by. The one left behind while everyone else got their “happily ever after.”

I couldn’t make sense of it.

And then—the right call came.

Bobbi-Jo reached out. Her daughter, Paige, had just finished an exceptional school year and was about to be rewarded with her very first puppy.

She could have chosen any dog.

Any puppy.

But Paige had already decided.

She wanted Oriola Queen.

Not the easiest.

Not the most obvious.

Not the one everyone else picked.

Her.

And just like that, the little puppy who waited the longest…became the one who was chosen with the most intention.

The one worth waiting for.
