On Sept 4th of 2013 Metro Pgh YFC acquired the former National Guard Armory building that is located at 16 West College Avenue. It is our intention to transform this 18,000ft historical landmark, equipped with a full gymnasium into a Community Youth Center. Here are some of the strategic program ideas for its use:
After School Academic Program – Students would have access to computers, work stat
ions, tutors and teachers to work alongside of Canon Mac students. Athletic Program – Run sports leagues and camps, adult volunteers to provide personal coaching lessons for local youth, and an exercise facility with equipment. Safe Haven – A fully functioning kitchen and snack bar for students to enjoy after school equipped with a coffee bar, couches, ping pong tables, air hockey, gaming systems, dining area, etc providing a safe place. Mentoring – Students that face adverse life circumstances could be connected to strong, enduring, professionally supported one to one relationships that change their lives for the better by inspiring spiritual and intellectual growth, greater confidence, higher aspirations, better relationships, and the avoidance of at risk behavior. Campus Life Club Meetings – Weekly meetings that address and give guidance and Biblical insight on the real life issues faced by teenagers every day. Community Partnership Programs – Youth for Christ envisions serving and collaborating with other programs, churches, organizations, sports teams, and businesses in Canonsburg by being a facility resource that benefits our community’s development. The building and first year expenses have already been paid for by an anonymous donor. Please feel free to pass this new and exciting opportunity on to others that might be interested in partnering with us
