Butterscotch update!
Never a dull moment in rescue! Who would have thought Butterscotch would generate drama?
As you know, PVSEC contacted us on May 7 in the evening to see if we would take in an orange tabby with a urinary blockage that had been surrendered. He would have been euthanized otherwise. We agreed, and within 14 hours at PVSEC, we spent $2400 to have him unnlocked. The following day we transferred him to Cheat Lake, where he spent 4.5 days, and we paid $2600. I brought him home for three days, during which he had two visits to our regular vet bc he was showing signs of complications. I then took him back to Cheat Lake bc he was in renal failure. He was there from May 15 to 21, for a total of $4,000. During this time, my friends donated approximately $10,000 to specifically save Butterscotch. On May 21, I took him to Ohio State, where he spent another week. I personally donated $5,500 to pay off his bill. The resident stated he would likely not survive discharge, but he did. He was home only a couple of days and was not eating. His kidneys were not recovering. At that point, I made the decision that he would not die without having a real forever home, and that he would stay with us. After all he was going to require 4 weeks of doxy treatment for mycoplasma and 6 weeks of a super powerful restricted antibiotic to treat the antibiotic resistant enterococcus infection that was destroying his kidneys, if he survived.
Despite all of this going on, we were recently contacted by friends who came across a horrible cat situation. We loaned them traps and gave other supplies and set up a fundraiser to get the cats and kittens out of the hell they were in. We immediately got a momma cat into a full service vet for complete vetting, a cost of $450, which I personally paid. One kitten went to a full service vet for severe upper respiratory. We set up the fundraiser for the dumpster colony project bc our rescue's funds were depleted. In addition to Butterscotch, we also had multiple other huge vet bills.
Well, in steps Londyn Madison. She is a so called "rescuer" who is bad news on every level. Even the local humane officer posted warnings about her. She does not like that we decided to keep Butterscotch...a medically compromosed cat, still fighting for his life. Apparently she thinks we should either adopt him out, or I should personally pay into the rescue or refund the $10K people donated for his vet bills, because he was now my "personal pet." She is psycho, no doubt. But she feels that by me keeping him in order to ensure his next 6 weeks of treatment (that may not work, which will result in his death), and to make sure he gets any future care he needs, that I somehow used donations for my "personal pet". As if I set out to find a severely sick and dying stray with severe medical issues to make my personal pet. I cannot make this crap up. This is the type of bull$hit reputable rescues deal with on a daily basis.
I guess I should have been "ethical" and placed a medically compromised cat in kidney failure, who also has mycoplasma and chronic cystitis up for adoption! There's a long line of qualified adopters for those cats, right? Good Lord.
Anyhow, I want to share her comments here. Ask any local reputable rescue what they think of Londyn Madison. Or just search her name on Facebook. There are plenty of posts about her.
And if anyone wants to donate to help our rescue tackle the dumpster project cats, our PayPal is [email protected] our venmo is MMAGICCCA and checks can be mailed to Malcolm's Magic PO Box 282 Canonsburg Pa 15317. We set up a camera to monitor and count cats and kittens remaining. So far 6 trapped thanks to Lori and Dan, but we cannot get the rest without funds to cover the vetting.
Thank you for helping us help them!
PS Londyn....put down the crack pipe.
