Memorial Day is More Than An Excuse for a Day Off

Hugh Hewitt: In just a few days time, we will be marking the 80th anniversary of D-Day—the invasion of Normandy. 130,000 Allies crossed the channel that day. Among them. 54,000 Americans. 2,700 died that day alone. We’ve called them “the greatest generation” for a reason. But the spirit that motivated them has been exemplified by those that had gone before them … and those that have served so faithfully after them as well. This legacy of those who have paid the ultimate price ought to renew our commitment to what George Washington called, “the experiment entrusted to the hands of the American people.” This Memorial Day weekend, let’s express our gratitude to those who have served and those have died for us. And: Let us renew our own commitment to what our first President called, “the preservation of the sacred fire of liberty” (Townhall Review).

Looking forward to our reunion August 5 & 6.

Dear Cousins,

It has been far too long since we last had an opportunity to get together, due to the Covid 19 restrictions. So the good news is that the McMillian reunion WILL be held this August 5 and 6. Please SAVE the DATE and plan on attending. We will hold our get together at Hill Church and the historical committee there is set to show us their new displays and additions to the Church's historical collections. You should receive a newsletter with details and registration form in late April or early May. Please send your email address to Donna Johnston for an electronic version to cut down costs.

In the mean time, please think about photos that you could bring to share with the group. It would be nice to spend a lot of time sharing family stories and lore with each other.

Also, if any members of our group have passed on since our last meeting in August 2018, please send that information to Donna Johnston so they can be included in our memorial ceremonies. Donna's email address is: [email protected]

Jefferson College Historical Society will be swinging open the Museum doors for an Open House on Saturday, November 6, from 11 - 4.
So come on over and check out some of our artifacts, hear some stories about the history of the region, find out how you could get involved, and learn about some of our plans for the future.

Please plan on using the south side entrance of the Canonsburg Middle School Auditorium.

Accessibility note: the museum has a small staircase between levels.

Plenty of parking available in the lot across the street, above the Roberts House.

Based on the current state masks will be optional.
