Opiates can stop breathing by shutting down the brain’s respiratory receptors. Narcan unblocks those receptors, giving life back.
If you find someone unconscious or in severe distress:
📞 Call 911 immediately. Good Samaritan laws protect helpers.
💨 Give Narcan if overdose is suspected — even if you’re not sure. 👀 Stay with them. They may be confused or even combative when waking so take care, but they may need a second dose.

Narcan will not harm someone who is not overdosing.

Overdose Awareness & Why Narcan Matters
NARCAN SAVES LIVES
Poisoning from drug overdose is now the #1 cause of accidental death in the United States — more than car accidents or shootings. Narcan (Naloxone) is a simple nasal spray that can reverse an opioid overdose in seconds by restoring breathing. It’s safe, easy to use, and saves lives.
We’re grateful to Shayla (DCCCA) and Lindsey (Live Healthy Montgomery County) for bringing this lifesaving training to Caney. Knowledge protects our community.

We would like to take a moment to thank everyone for their support during our Caney Backpack program
We were able to purchase headphones (460) for each child at Lincoln Grade School thanks to a generous donation from the Community Foundation of S.E. Kansas.

Also backpacks and supplies were given out to 72 children thanks to:
Methodist Church
Nazarene Church
Caney Agape Food Network
And many anonymous donors.

We give a big thanks to our volunteers that spent many hours getting everything ready and helping the day of distribution
