Cando Connection You always "GetBack" more than you "GiveBack"! Get involved in any way you would like to GiveBack to the Cando area!

The name “Cando Connection” was selected for this GiveBack initiative so that any person having a connection to Cando would feel welcome to participate in any manner. By taking this opportunity to GiveBack to the Cando area, you are lending support to charitable endeavors and providing a much needed boost to area residents, who are frequently asked to participate in worthy community causes.

Thank You So Much . . .

What an incredible day! Our most sincere thanks for your donation to the Impact-Cando Connection Fund during Giving Hearts Day 2026. We are grateful that our donors, match sponsors, and volunteers were so generous in supporting this special 24-hour giving event. Our preliminary total for the event as of 12:00 Midnight is $7,105 for the Impact-Cando Connection Fund, and the overall preliminary total for all of the charities participating in the 2026 Giving Hearts Day Event is $30,391,660 – another phenomenal year! We are also so very humbled and proud to announce that our overall fundraising efforts for the Impact-Cando Connection Fund, since inception in 2008, is at $359,135! Of that total raised, $7,920.77 are in-kind gifts!

The Impact-Cando Connection Fund continued their designation opportunities for the 2026 Giving Hearts Day Event and we are happy to announce the winners of each designation below:

*PLEASE NOTE: All designations must be made to a Cando-area nonprofit, governmental, or educational entity approved by the Impact-Cando Connection Fund Advisory Board.

1. CANDO Strength in Numbers GHD Designation: Nodak Insurance - Jeff Miller, Crop Agent, Cando, ND - $500 Impact-Cando Connection Fund designation* by the drawing winner from group/business donors giving $250 or more to the Impact-Cando Connection Fund during the 2026 Giving Hearts Day event.

2. CANDO Caring Heart Family/Individual GHD Designation: Nancy and Gary Rader, Cando, ND - $500 Impact-Cando Connection Fund designation* by the drawing winner from families/individuals giving $100 or more to the Impact-Cando Connection Fund during the 2026 Giving Hearts Day event.

3. CANDO Inside the Lines GHD Drawing Designation: Bernie Belzer, Bismark, ND - In Memory of Cindy Eggl - $500 Impact-Cando Connection Fund designation* by the drawing winner from donors living within a 250-mile radius of Cando, ND who give to the Impact-Cando Connection Fund during the 2026 Giving Hearts Day event.

4. CANDO Outside the Lines GHD Drawing Designation: Jean Hoffman, Peaks Island, ME - In Memory of her mother Diane Thompson Hoffman and Cindy Eggl - $500 Impact-Cando Connection Fund designation* by the drawing winner from donors living outside the 250-mile radius of Cando, ND who give to the Impact-Cando Connection Fund during the 2026 Giving Hearts Day event.

5. CANDO Pioneer Heart GHD Drawing Designation: 281 Spirit Shop - Chad and Jo Staus, Cando, ND - $500 Impact-Cando Connection Fund designation* by the drawing winner from donors who have given during all fourteen prior Giving Hearts Day events and who give to the Impact-Cando Connection Fund during the 2026 Giving Hearts Day event.

6. CANDO Tender Heart GHD Drawing Designation: Logan St. Michaels, West Fargo, ND - In Memory of Tom Steele - $500 Impact-Cando Connection Fund designation* by the drawing winner from donors who give their first donation to the Impact-Cando Connection Fund during the 2026 Giving Hearts Day event.

CONGRATULATIONS to all the designation opportunity winners! We will be in touch with you to get you the list of charitable organizations approved by the Impact-Cando Connection Fund, so you can make your designation.

The Impact-Cando Connection Fund Leadership took a mighty blow last year with the loss of Founding Advisory Board Member, Cynthia (Cindy) Eggl. She was the main engine that made the Impact-Cando Connection Fund operate and was instrumental in raising over $330,000 to benefit Cando and the surrounding areas through a variety of non-profit organizations. On a day-to-day basis, Cindy was the person that reached out to all of the match sponsors, responded to all questions regarding grant paperwork, wrote all news articles generated by our fund submitted to the newspaper, sent out grant checks to the non-profit organizations, reviewed all the news articles written by the non-profit organizations they submitted to the newspaper, updated the Impact-Cando Connection website, wrote and sent the thank you notes, and attended to other numerous tasks. Every aspect and detail was touched by Cindy. It has taken multiple people working hand in hand to fill her shoes; I am certain there have been some things that have fallen through the holes in the soles of those shoes.

Hopefully, on this first Giving Hearts Day event without her, those of us who have picked up the mantle will try to live up to the exemplary example she has left for us to follow. Many of the match sponsors for the giving events throughout the years, including the upcoming annual Giving Hearts Day event, have been with us for multiple years if not for all 15 years in which the Impact-Cando Connection Fund has participated. So, when we reach out and ask for your support, I hope you still hear Cindy’s voice doing the asking. She loved her hometown of Cando, and the Impact-Cando Connection Fund was her passion. Let’s dedicate this year of giving to Cindy. She certainly deserves it!
