Meet City 2 Mom Gloria!

---

"I have been an Auxiliary member for 50 years. I have been an active member in our unit for the past 25 yrs. I was the Dept of ND President during the 2023-2024 yrs. I have spent the last 6 yrs active in the Dept side of Auxiliary. I volunteer for 4 other organizations in the communities I am a part of. I live in Rocklake which is about 20 miles from the Canadian border in NE ND. I have 3 grown children and 4 grandchildren. I have 3 cats that are my fur babies now. I enjoy flowers and have alot on my deck and in my yard during the summer. I enjoy photography but don't do as much as I used to. I also enjoy sitting on my deck with my morning coffee and listening to the birds that seem to be pretty chatty during that time of day."

Gloria's favorite part of Girls State is the flag raising every morning. It seems to set the tone for the day!!"

Members of American Legion Hal Parker Post 79 and the City of Cando are proudly hanging flags throughout our community in honor of Memorial Day.

Each flag pole displays the name, rank, and branch of service of local veterans — a tribute made possible by Hal Parker Post 79 to recognize the men and women who served our country with honor.

As we remember those who made the ultimate sacrifice, we are also proud to honor the veterans in our community whose service and dedication will never be forgotten.

The flags will remain displayed through Flag Day, the 4th of July, and Labor Day as a continued reminder of the sacrifices made for our freedom and the veterans who helped protect it.

Take a moment as you pass by to read the names and reflect on the service and sacrifice of those who served our nation. ❤️🤍💙

The red poppy speaks where words fall short — a silent tribute to the sacrifices made for our freedom by the heroes who served and died for our country in all wars. ❤️‍🩹 The poppy is a reminder that their courage will never be forgotten. 🇺🇸

After World War I, the American Legion Family brought National Poppy Day® to the United States by asking Congress to designate the Friday before Memorial Day as National Poppy Day.

The Auxiliary promotes the poppy as a symbol of the sacrifices our military have made, a symbol to open people’s hearts and inspire them to donate to help support the future of veterans, servicemembers, and their families. 🇺🇸

Today, on National Poppy Day, wear a red poppy to honor the fallen and support the living. ❤️

New schedule for June

Shine up those cars and start planning your floats! We are looking for parade entries for the "250 Years of American Moments" Parade for Cando Days 2026! Chamber Board Members will be voting on who best depicts this for a prize! While we would love to see lots of participation, it is not a requirement for entry!

So what counts as an American Moment? Think a decade (80's, 60's, Future America) A historic moment (1776 Founding Era, 1860s Frontier, WW I/II, 9/11) or even just your American pride and cover your vehicle in Red White and Blue!

There will be a Show and Shine following the parade between 5th and 6th Ave on Main! By selecting "yes" on the form, this gets you into the following prize categories!
- Best in Show
- People’s Choice
- Kid's Choice
- Loudest Engine
- "Driven Not Hidden" (for those vehicles that are well loved)
