Asheville Firemans Friends and Family Club

Asheville Firemans Friends and Family Club Communication - Socialization - Support The Asheville Firemans Wives Club has been a long time coming.

The AFD is excellent at communicating and taking care of it's employees, but many times the spouses and families are not as informed because we all know, FIREMEN DON'T TALK! We hope to develop a network of information that will help us understand the other family in our lives and allow us to be better support for the men and women called to this duty. We also want to encourage a social outlet, to

get to know the lives of the other fire fighters at the station where our loved one is assigned. The International Association of Fire Fighters is a brotherhood that only they can understand, and as family's of those fire fighters, we appreciate it and would like to be an extension of that brotherhood.

We need to know more about how firefighters contract cancer. The state should see what research is being done and look for gaps that can be filled.

Developed & implemented by John Ellis & Jimmy Mengel, it brings Fire Fighters into the classroom and helps make reading fun!

So thankful that Asheville Fire and Rescue has been able to bring the facts before the state to set precedence. Will and Karen were both such loyal and professional fire fighters and deserve the respect and benefits after their hardest battle - cancer. Both are missed terribly, thought of often and remembered lovingly.

The NC Industrial Commission has ruled Assistant FM Karen Shuart's death from cancer as a line of duty death. This ruling validates the growing crisis of the increase in cancer among firefighters which is now the leading cause of death.
