We have placed the flags at the Vietnam Era Veterans Memorial to honor Flag Day.
Each year on June 14, Americans celebrate Flag Day to honor the adoption of the Stars and Stripes as our national emblem in 1777. The Continental Congress established the flag’s design—thirteen stripes for the original colonies and thirteen stars for a new constellation of states—symbolizing unity, freedom, and the enduring spirit of independence. From battlefields to schools, from front porches to public squares, the flag has flown as a proud reminder of the sacrifices made to preserve liberty and the ideals our nation was founded upon.
Flag Day is more than a date on the calendar—it is a moment to reflect on what the flag represents to every generation of Americans. For veterans and their families, it stands as a living symbol of service, courage, and commitment to country. As communities across the nation raise the flag high, we renew our pledge to uphold the values it embodies: justice, equality, and the promise of freedom for all.
