Canandaigua Pack 29

Sure, we have flying cars now, but there is nothing better than going outside and hopping on our own two feet to hike through the woods. It's especially fun when we do it with over 50 parents, grandparents, Cubs, and siblings from Pack 29!

We had a beautiful hike at Ontario County Park this morning. And while we were greeted at the top of Gannett Hill with snow and 35° weather, we toughed it out and hiked a little over 2 miles on our way to spectacular, sunny views from the "Jumpoff." We were definitely spoiled this year with peak fall foliage and a lot of adventurous and enthusiastic Cubs!

We were especially thrilled to have many of our 20--yes, 20!!!--new recruits join us today. And we have plenty of room for more. Let us know if you'd like some more info about Cub Scouts and Canandaigua Pack 29!

We had a great time at Pinstravapaloopsa this past weekend. This Cubmaster didn't snag as many pictures as he would have liked, but he did get to snap a couple of these two awesome Cubs who have been running around camp together since they were Wolves at Cub Scout Adventure Camp. This will likely be their last event together at Cutler as Cub Scouts as they will be crossing over to the Troop in February after finishing up their Arrow of Light. They both wanted to commemorate the occasion with a picture. Congrats, August and Chase! And a huge thanks to Melissa Ansley for expertly leading their den since they were Bears.

10 Cubs and 9 parents went to Greater Finger Lakes Council, Scouting America Cub Scout Adventure Camp this past weekend and had an absolute blast!

Just some of the highlights in the attached pictures include archery, BB and slingshot, boating, fishing, hiking, the yearly AOL Mud Run, and lots of other fun programming, not to mention a Pack campfire with s'mores.

Out of our cubs we had one first-timer and nine returners--including two last-timers (AOLs) who will cross over to the troop this year and head to Scouts BSA Camp next summer! Thanks Chase and August for being great examples for our younger cubs this summer, and we will miss you next year!

A big thanks to the CSAC Camp Staff for another great summer at the Camp we call Cutler!

What a great trip to Niagara Falls and Buffalo! Our Cubs got to do some tent camping Friday night in Lewiston, NY. Saturday morning we woke up and headed out early to Goat Island and Niagara Falls. Many of our cubs and even some of our parents got to see the falls for the first time. After the falls we headed over to the Buffalo Zoo for the afternoon to see some animals and pass some time before our overnight encampment on the USS Little Rock, a WW2 and Cold War naval vessel. We got to eat in the mess hall, sleep in the crew berthing compartments, learn and practice morse code, and communicate with other parks and people around the country using the onboard radio equipment run by the Amateur Radio Association of Western NY. During our stay we had free rein throughout the 610-foot, Cleveland-class light cruiser, converted to a Galveston-class guided missile cruiser, and our Cubs found every nook and cranny they could. We also had access to the USS Croaker, a Gato-class submarine, and the USS Sullivans, a Fletcher-class destroyer. It was a great experience, and will undoubtedly remain a fond memory for our Scouts and parents for years to come.

It was a beautiful day at Camp Cutler for the Seneca Waterways Council, Scouting America Tournament of Champions that is until the monsoon came and we had to shelter in place. Many of us sheltered in our cars and headed home, but luckily that wasn't before we got to fish, play copious amounts of Gaga ball, raid the trading post for some loot, run around like pirates, play with a snake, try some team-building games, fire some bb guns and slingshots, and empty several quivers of arrows at some unsuspecting targets at the archery range. It really was a great time for all that came. Next stop: Niagara Falls and the Buffalo Naval Yard in June!

Tonight our Tiger den had a blast trying to build a Da Vinci Bridge. While it did stand up, we didn't trust it to hold weight.

But the scouts had fun.

What a great day for a race! We hosted our Pack's first Raingutter Regatta in 5 years. And we were so lucky to have the best venue in town. A huge thank you to the Canandaigua Yacht Club for hosting our re-inaugural event! It was the perfect setting for our Cub Scouts to have a great time building and racing their boats.
