Hello everybody!

I wanted to do a check in - as future healthcare professionals, it is extremely important to have good strategies to avoid burnout. How are you enjoying your summer? What’s one fun thing you plan on doing?

Happy Occupational Therapy Month! How are you celebrating as a future professional?

Now that I'm officially out in the field, one thing that I wish I would have done as a student is perfect my elevator speech! Not only do my friends and family want to know what I do, it is VERY important to be able to explain to clients and their families why our role as an OT is so crucial in rehabilitation. Have a great elevator speech you want to share or any tips for other students? Go ahead and throw it in the comments! :)

Hello future OTs! I wanted to introduce myself as the new Student Committee Chair for OOTA. My name is Brooke, and I graduated with my Master’s in December 2021 from Cleveland State University. I recently passed my boards and accepted a job as an acute care therapist. I also work as an accommodation intake specialist at a university, which means I recommend accommodations and advocate for college students registered with our Office of Disability and Testing Services for their accommodations and legal rights in school. Being a brand new grad, I’m very excited to engage with all of you! Feel free to message this page with any OOTA questions - stay tuned for more!

For children and youth ages 5-21, literacy is foundational to academic success. Impairment in handwriting has been linked to barriers to fluent composition and productive engagement in academic tasks. This infographic highlights handwriting evidence-based interventions that occupational therapy practitioners can use to help improve handwriting legibility in clients. https://www.aota.org/Practice/Researchers/HOT-Evidence.aspx

I didn't get a post up yesterday for World Occupational Therapy day, so I'm sharing this today instead. I thought we could all use a positive story today. This is such a neat advancement in assistive tech. (And I'm not crying. You're crying!)

What an amazing weekend! Being present in the moment meant I did not take any pictures other than these two. But I wanted to give a shout out to the two SOTA groups present this weekend. Thanks for representing & participating, EHOVE/Lorain Occupational Therapy Assistant Program & The Ohio State University Division of Occupational Therapy. (And I'm loving my new OTA mask that I purchased from the OTA students!) It was great interacting with all of you. I hope you take what you learned back to your classmates. And I look forward to seeing you again in the future.
