And it starts again on the first nice weekend.

Please read the rules and regulations when using outdoor spaces. Continued access to anywhere you go is dependent on following the rules and regulations of an area. These rules are set up for the protection of the natural area you are visiting and for the safety of you and other visitors.

If you request a permit for a group, you must ensure that all members of your group are aware of the rules and warnings of the Graining Fork Nature Preserve.

We started clearing the leaves from the trail up to the crag. The purpose of Clearing is to prevent erosion on the trail. The leaves are completely removed from the edge of the trail to allow for water runoff the trail, instead of down the trail.

We took this opportunity to update the webpage, and we fixed the donation options. We have a new bank account and PayPal (last one highjacked). We added a Venmo option for donations as well.

Changes to the webpage include a few statements about parking and no rope soloing.

Thank you for your support and helping us to protect and improve the area.

This black access for@large delivery trucks and customer to Hop’s. It also limits the number of parking spaces.

Unfortunately, we will have to start towing vehicles that block access: Honestly, this shouldn’t even be a post — everyone should understand the basics of parking.

Last week we made a post about cheaters stones at the base of C sharp B flat. Today we want to expand a little bit on why we made the post.

The slide wall was featured in an access fund magazine article as an example of what a crag should not become. The photo featured an example of extreme erosion with entire root systems exposed and the loss of soil was great.

Eventually, we ended up working with the Access Fund to protect the slab wall area from erosion. This was accomplished by building up the surface, using a combination of soil and hard surface/rocks. We moved approximately 20 tons of rock to reinforce and protect the base of the cliff line and the trees that help hold the soil in place.

this means that all of the debris and rocks that you see piled up or meant to keep you from going through that area. This in return will protect the cliff line from losing more soil. We would greatly appreciate that you do not move rocks to create stones or to create a new pathway.

When climbing C sharp B flat, always start to the right about 6 feet. This can be very safely accomplished by stick clipping the first bolt and having a good belayer.

The biggest comment that we hear from folks that access the preserve without a permit is that they had no idea a permit was required. Hopefully, this sign alleviates that.

The purpose of the permits are to limit the number of people per day that access the preserve. This alleviates erosion issues that have plagued the area in the past the permit system also outlines rules that are in place to provide protection for the beauty of the area as well a safe climbing environment for everyone.

we are most definitely not anti-climbers. All but one of the board members has been climbing in the Red River Gorge for 20+ years. One of the board members also has numerous duration ascents and still continues to climb regularly in the gorge.

be sure to learn and be informed of access requirements for any climbing area. This information can be found on mountain project, your guidebook, and local climbing organizations. being informed protects access for everyone.
