Warming Centers to Open in Taylor & Green County in Response to Dangerously Low Temps
Community members are encouraged to take precautions against hypothermia and to seek out shelter at the nearest warming centers and overnight warming locations.
CAMPBELLSVILLE, KY. – Hometown Connect in partnership with Emergency Management are excited to announce that Warming Centers will be open in both Taylor & Green County as the National Weather Service has forecasted dangerously cold temperatures will cover the State starting Monday, January 15th, 2024 and will continue for several days.
A cold air mass paired with possible precipitation will settle into the area during the end of the weekend and temperatures will become dangerously cold. We highly encourage community members with a lack of a heat source, especially people experiencing homelessness, to take precautions against hypothermia and to seek out warming centers.
“Our case workers and community partners have been and will continue to visit known areas of homelessness to distribute blankets, beanies, hand warmers as well as information about other resources to our unsheltered community members”, said Daniel T. Cook, Executive Director of Hometown Connect.
“Emergency Management alongside of Hometown Connect were able to contact and coordinate with several churches to ensure that these centers are being established and prepped. We encourage anyone experiencing homelessness to locate a location near them for refuge from the temperatures.” – Ronnie Dooley, Director of Taylor County Emergency Management.
