It is said that you die twice, the second time is when your name is said for the last time. Remember our fallen soldiers. Say their Names.
I am sure you recognize this large rock at Bailey Park, but did you know it contains the names of that Camp Point area soldiers who died in service to their country?
The name missing from this stone is from Vietnam--Michael Frese.
Say their names. Never forget.

On October 1, 2023, the Camp Point Historical Society hosted a Business Tour highlighting the many businesses that once surrounded the Railroad Park area.

While cleaning and organizing recently, we rediscovered this slideshow and thought the community might enjoy taking another look. Many of our board members devoted countless hours to researching and preparing the presentation, and we are especially grateful to the speakers who shared their stories, knowledge, and memories during the event.

We hope you enjoy this glimpse into an important chapter of Camp Point’s history.

Did you know? Mrs. Jane Craver (1827-1911) was the wife of a Civil War soldier. They lived in Pennsylvania and were close to many conflicts. She volunteered as a nurse. She was proud of her service to the Union. Most notably, she was present to hear Lincoln's Gettysburg Address! After the war, they came to Camp Point and she is buried alongside her husband in Evergreen Cemetery. Read more about her in the Camp Point Journal online archives.
