SHIELD For A Cause is a veteran-led nonprofit that mobilizes community support to fund direct access to mental health, addiction recovery, and crisis intervention programs for veterans who've been failed by stigma, waitlists, and financial barriers.

🎖 September is National Su***de Prevention Month. But for veterans, it’s every month.

22 veterans die by su***de every single day. Not just in September. Every day.

That’s not a statistic. That’s 22 families who won’t get a phone call. 22 futures that won’t happen. 22 stories that end too soon because the system failed them.

The VA has waitlists. Private programs work faster. Most veterans can’t afford them. So they wait. They suffer. Some of them don’t make it.

SHIELD For A Cause exists because we can’t wait for September to care.

We fund the gap between a veteran in crisis and the program that saves their life. We show up at events in full gear because veterans need to see themselves as heroes, not victims. We fight because someone we loved didn’t get that chance.

If you’re a veteran struggling right now:

You are not weak for asking for help. Asking for help is the strongest thing you can do. You survived war. You can survive this.

If you want to fight with us, scan the QR code below or visit the link in our bio. Every dollar closes the gap.

Together, we can change that number from 22.

Because no veteran should be forgotten.

Veteran of the Month.

He enlisted one week after America entered WWI. A year later, he was gone. 🇺🇸

This month we’re honoring Private Percy L. Hollinshed. He was 28 years old, from Delair, NJ, and he was killed at the Battle of Belleau Wood in June 1918. We won’t forget him.

250 years is not a long time. Not for a Democracy. Not for an idea this fragile and this precious.

Listen to me.

This country was not handed to us. It was built, board by board, sacrifice by sacrifice, generation by generation by people who understood that freedom is not something you win once and keep forever. It is something you fight for, every generation, every day, or you lose it.

And today, I am asking you to make that decision.

You wore this nation’s uniform. You went where they sent you. You bled thousands of miles from home so the people you left behind would never have to and the idea that what we are is worth protecting.

That idea is under assault.

Not from across an ocean. Not from a foreign shore. From within.

And every veteran in this country knows — knows — that the most dangerous threat is the one you don’t see coming. The one that wears a familiar face. The one that speaks the language of patriotism while dismantling everything patriotism is supposed to mean.

We have faced darkness before. We have walked through it before. And we are still here.

Captain James Lawrence lay dying on the deck of his ship — outnumbered, outgunned, the battle already lost — and his last order to his crew was this:

Don’t give up the ship.

They remembered those words. They carried them forward. And they won.

That is who we are. That is what we do.

This Democracy does not save itself

It never has. Every generation that inherited this country also had to earn it. Had to defend it. Had to look their moment in the eye and decide what kind of Americans they were going to be.

This is our moment.

Not the moment we asked for. Not the one we trained for. But ours nonetheless.

So stand up. Speak. Organize. Refuse to be silent when silence is what the powerful are counting on. The warrior ethos you carried in uniform — that belongs to you. And this country needs it more right now than it has in a very long time.

250 years.

The torch has been passed to us.

Don’t give up the ship.

🎖️ 22 veterans die by su***de every day. We show up so that number changes.
This August 22nd & 23rd, SHIELD For A Cause will be at the Harrisburg Comic and Pop Con at the Pennsylvania Farm Show Complex.
But we're not just another booth.
We are veterans. We created our own heroes because we believe veterans deserve to see themselves as powerful and never forgotten. We show up in full character at events like this one to raise funds that go directly to mental health and addiction recovery programs for veterans who can't afford the gap between crisis and care.
The VA has waitlists. Private programs work faster. Most veterans can't afford them. We fund that gap.
Come find us. Hear the story. Take a photo. Be someone's hero.

They gave everything.

This Memorial Day, we remember the men and women who never made it home. Their sacrifice is the foundation of every freedom we live with today.

We do not celebrate today. We honor it.

At SHIELD, we carry that responsibility forward by standing beside the veterans who came home and continuing the mission in their name.

Take a moment today. Remember them.
