Take a look at the hard work members of our local community have done to transform this property. We will also let you know of the programs we are planning to introduce that will benefit our local community, as well as communities around Alabama.

One of the best days of our lives as organizers in the Deep South happened yesterday. Leaders of worker power organizations from all over the U.S. came to visit Camp Hill, Alabama to spend time with us at the first of two community complexes we are developing to support workers and families here in Alabama.

There’s a phrase in the Northern Ghanaian Dagbanli language that is biela biela, or “little by little.”

That’s our motto at The Across Network. Little by little our organization and work have grown. We have focused on functionality for a while at our HQ but today we are working on form.

Today we are putting together an outdoor gathering space that will double as a place for people to sit when they come by and get food from one of our local partners when they set up and cook here.

We have a long way to go but we have come so far.

Little by little.

We have finished the electrical work and plumbing supply on the community resource hub and now are moving towards the beginnings of the programming there. Our summer fundraiser is on and it won't be possible without the many supporters we have. Donate and share if you would! - Warren Tidwell, Co-Executive Director

We are raising $10,000 this summer to support our many community support programs. Your donations will help support our programs of home repairs and weatherization, along with helping continue to develop our workforce training center.

Just finished another deck for one of our seniors. Our senior support program not only provides for infrastructure at home, but also for repairs for their automobiles to ensure they can make their appointments.

Resilience is built by support and meeting material needs.

And Across is making these projects sustainable by building them around job training for younger workers. We are going to rebuild the rural south from the ground up and we are going to do it together.

We are proud to promote literacy in our community by partnering with Oak Street Community Center and First Universalist Church of Camp Hill to provide a community stop for the Horseshoe Bend Regional Library bookmobile at 14 Oak Street in Camp Hill every month on the FOURTH THURSDAY from 12-1pm.

Last week our Executive Director, Warren Tidwell, traveled to Los Angeles, California as a member of the Recall Injustice Coalition. He attended the LA Auto Show to deliver a letter to Hyundai leadership asking for a meeting to negotiate a Community Benefits Agreement in order to address the many violations in the Hyundai-Kia Supply Chain. This includes instances of child labor and the on again/off again usage of prison labor.

We were dismayed to learn of his violent removal from the Hyundai press conference at the hands of their security. He simply stood up at the end of the press conference and asked to deliver the aforementioned letter. Before even being allowed to speak he was grabbed by the shirt and spun towards the back of the room where he was shoved into a corner and told repeatedly to “shut up.”

We are talking about a man who has led disaster recoveries in rural Alabama for years and who, more often than not, would be repairing homes and making food deliveries to homebound seniors and disabled residents where we work rather than traveling to California. He is as peaceful a person as anyone you would meet and no one deserves how he was treated, especially someone who has dedicated so much of their lives in service of others.

He would also be the first to tell you that, while we are a peaceful community building group only asking for a meeting between hyundai and our coalition partners, we will not be cowed into silence by Hyundai and their clearly overzealous security team.

We believe Alabama workers deserve as much as anyone else and our communities shouldn’t be exploited by organizations who are— according to their own press conference— making more profits than they ever have before. We also believe workers shouldn’t be assaulted for asking for a corporation to do right by the workers in their plants and supply chain.
