Participants learn about the county and build important skills to lead them through their passion. The Juneau County Leadership Program (formerly called the Advanced Leadership Program or ALP)'s vision is to facilitate the advanced education and empowerment of emerging leaders for professional, personal, and community enrichment. The primary goal of the program is leadership building and the devel
opment of each participant's natural talents. The Juneau County Leadership Program welcomes existing and emerging leaders and encourages and celebrates participants' diversity in age, philosophy, culture, location, and personal and professional backgrounds. Each year the program accepts 12-15 participants. The program encompasses a broad perspective on personal, political, economic, and social issues affecting the County. Juneau County Leadership Program participants will receive a heightened awareness of County issues, networking opportunities, and leadership development skills for personal and professional growth. The participants will get to know each other well as they meet one day a month for ten months. Each year begins with an overnight stay at Upham Woods in southern Juneau County. The remaining months consist of tours, workshops, and seminars. These experiences provide participants access to programs, businesses, communities, and governmental influences in Juneau County. Historically, the UW-Madison Division of Extension in Juneau County helps support this program through funding, work done and the extension office, and staffing, including the fantastic facilitator, Gary Kirking. The Juneau County Board also supported the program but decided to not fund the Community Resource Educator position 2022. The Juneau County Leadership Program Board of Directors is moving towards a self-funded program. The Juneau County Leadership Program has seen nearly 200 participants in its decade of operation. These participants have gone on to receive promotions in their careers, create outstanding service programs for our County, and become leaders in their industries and communities.
