💜💛 HISTORY MADE ON THE HILL! $6.1 MILLION AND COUNTING! 🎉

What a way to celebrate 150 years of excellence!

During Homecoming 2026, Prairie View A&M University celebrated a historic milestone with more than $6.1 million in gifts and commitments — the largest fundraising total associated with a Homecoming celebration in PVAMU history!

From generous alumni and dedicated corporate partners to supporters who believe in the power of education, this extraordinary achievement represents more than a dollar amount. It's an investment in student success, endowed scholarships and opportunities for future generations of Panthers.

As we celebrate 150 years of excellence, this milestone brings us closer to our $15 million anniversary fundraising goal.

To every donor, alumnus and partner who continues to invest in the future of PVAMU — THANK YOU! Your generosity is helping build a legacy that will last for generations.

🐾 Rooted in Legacy. Rising Through Generosity.

🎉 Celebrating Mrs. Onnie C. Canady Parks—A Living O. J. Thomas Legacy 🎉

I realize I am stepping outside the order in which we have been recognizing O. J. Thomas High School graduates, but I wanted to honor this beautiful lady during her birthday month.

Mrs. Onnie C. Canady Parks was born on September 24, 1927. She was the second of 13 children and the first baby girl born to Ira and Clara B. Canady Sr.

Mrs. Parks graduated from O. J. Thomas High School in 1946. She attended Huston-Tillotson College in Austin before transferring to Prairie View A&M University, where she became one of the first members of her family to earn a college degree. She received a bachelor’s degree in Home Economics and her teaching certification.

She later married Charles Parks, and together they moved to Odessa, Texas. Her husband’s career later took them to Albuquerque, New Mexico, and eventually to Chicago, Illinois, where Mrs. Parks lived for more than 50 years. During her time in Chicago, she gave birth to her only child, Labert Anderson.

Over the years, she experienced the heartbreaking loss of her husband and, later, her son and daughter-in-law, who left behind two daughters, Kiara and Konisha. After speaking with Mrs. Parks, her siblings decided to travel to Chicago and bring her back home to the family residence on Nolan Street in Cameron.

As the years passed, both of her granddaughters moved to Houston to be closer to their grandmother. Mrs. Parks now has five great-grandchildren, whom she loves dearly. She proudly shared that her granddaughters take turns visiting and checking on her every month.

Mrs. Parks is doing remarkably well. She now lives in Temple to be closer to her doctors. Every other Friday, she enjoys going to the beauty salon to have her hair styled. In fact, she personally shared this wonderful history with me! We believe she may be one of the oldest living graduates of O. J. Thomas High School.

If you know of an O. J. Thomas graduate who is older, we would love to hear from you and recognize them as part of this remarkable legacy. Please contact me at (254) 482-1324.

Happy Birthday Month to my aunt, Mrs. Onnie C. Canady Parks—a beautiful soul and a treasured part of the O. J. Thomas legacy!

Look closely.
not a bird, not a plane, it’s EBCO.
They thought they could sneak around this morning and take a look at the project again, before starting.
Caught them.

Looks like the Yoemen have something special.
