Cameron Lions Club Program: Pasture Pests & Screwworm Updates

At Monday’s Cameron Lions Club meeting, County Extension Agent for Agriculture and Natural Resources, Josh Evans, with the Texas A&M AgriLife Extension Service in Milam County, presented an informative program on pasture pests and the latest developments regarding new world screwworm.

Josh discussed pasture mealybugs, including how to identify them, their life cycle, the problems they can cause, and treatment options. He also provided an update on the new world screwworm, sharing current information about this important agricultural concern, how screwworms live and develop, how to recognize them, and ways producers can help protect livestock.

We appreciate Josh taking the time to share his expertise and keep our Cameron Lions Club members informed about issues that impact our local agricultural community.

🦁💙 Cameron Lions Club Program Spotlight! 💙🦁
Today, we were honored to welcome Rachel Owens with CASA of Milam County as our guest speaker!
Rachel shared with us about the important work CASA does right here in Milam County. CASA (Court Appointed Special Advocates) recruits, trains, and supports community volunteers who advocate for the best interests of children involved in the child protection system. These volunteers make a tremendous difference by giving children a consistent voice and helping ensure their needs are heard. 💙
We are grateful to Rachel for taking the time to share more about CASA and the impact they are making in our community!

🌌✨ Learning About the Universe, One Black Hole at a Time! ✨🌌

The Cameron Lions Club had the pleasure of welcoming James Holcombe, a Milam County 4-H member, as our guest speaker today. James shared his award-winning presentation on Black Holes, the same presentation that earned him 1st Place at the District 4-H Contest!

His presentation wasn't just educational. It was interactive, too! Several Cameron Lions members volunteered to help with a hands-on activity that brought the science of black holes to life. Between fascinating facts, audience participation, and plenty of laughs along the way, everyone left with a greater appreciation for the mysteries of our universe.

Thank you, James, for sharing your knowledge, enthusiasm, and outstanding public speaking skills with us. Congratulations again on your District 4-H success, and we wish you the best in your future competitions! 🌟🦁👏

Thank you to the Children’s Librarian Maria Montejano from the Cameron Public Library for the program today. The Summer reading program “Unearth a Story” will be June 8-July 30. Early registration starts May 26.
