National Hispanic Heritage Month runs September 15 to October 15, and today is its final day! This month we remembered and celebrated the culture, history, and contributions of the many diverse Hispanic communities.

At SSJNC, we're proud to serve our Cramer Hill neighbors and to be enriched by their faith, traditions, and spirit all year long. Though the month ends today, our appreciation does not. Gracias to all who make Cramer Hill what it is!

Today marks the anniversary of the founding of the Sisters of St. Joseph in Le Puy, France, in 1650. Our earliest sisters, in collaboration with Father Medaille, shared a profound desire for union with God and the “dear neighbor,” and fulfilled this desire with their “feet in the street,” seeking to meet the needs of every sort of neighbor in the neighborhoods around them. The simple and profound “Little Design” spread quickly throughout Europe, the United States, Philadelphia, and throughout the world.

More than 3 centuries later, we are so grateful to partner with you in keeping this mission alive. Thank you for embracing God’s dream and serving the dear neighbor at the SSJ Neighborhood Center with the same zeal and spirit as our founding sisters.
Happy Founders Day!

September at the SSJ Neighborhood Center means the start of our English classes. We are happy to share that we have over 100 students, with over seventy new students. We are blessed with ten new volunteers. Classes meet on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 9:30-11:00 am or 6:30-8:00 pm. We now have two classes on Wednesday mornings from 9:30-11:30. We also offer one online class for the advanced learners. Our rooms are full; there is laughter and learning taking place at the Neighborhood Center.
Maxson Cabida collected and donated the students' folders, pencils, and notebooks. He is a sophomore at Rutgers University in Camden. Maxson has been collecting food and school supplies for us since he was in grade school! He continues the legacy begun by his brother and parents. We are so very grateful for our student-Neighbors, our volunteer teachers and for Maxson for making sure that we have the proper materials for a successful year of English classes.

I set aside discouragement and choose to trust.
The God who brought me to this will get me through this.
Even as I grieve the plight of Earth. I choose small actions to lessen my part in it.

The SSJ Neighborhood Center was blessed to have the Staff from Norwood-Fontbonne Academy join us for a morning of service last month. The Partners In Mission prepared our computers and IPads for our upcoming ESL classes. They also sorted folders and notebooks, sharpened pencils, and prepared classroom baskets for our volunteer teachers. As an added service, they packed onions for distribution at our food pantry. Truly, our friends from NFA were “ready for any and all good work.” We are so grateful for this partnership among the SSJ Sponsored Ministries!

Sometimes all I can manage is a “naked intent toward God.” It is enough.
My “wanting to” matters to God.
I trust that my small efforts on behalf of Earth make a difference.

When our Camden families need assistance, especially our youngest Neighbors who are preparing for a new school year and in need of school supplies, God’s people in the form of school communities and parishes show up! We are so grateful for the generosity of St. Joseph Academy, Camden Catholic High School, Bishop Eustace Preparatory School, St Joan of Arc Parish, Norwood-Fontbonne Academy, Saint Vincent dePaul Society of Nativity of Our Lord Roman Catholic Church Monroe Twp, Infant Jesus Parish, and Priscilla Adams of Camden. These generous donations filled more than 250 backpacks and they filled our children’s hearts with hope and excitement for the coming school year. Our children will have the tools they need to learn, grow, and participate in classroom activities. Our parents are grateful for your spirit of generosity which will allow their children to attend school without an added financial burden on the families. Thanks for being “Good Neighbors” and a sign of hope for our immigrant sisters and brothers in Camden.

Looking back over the events of this summer, today we are highlighting our Neighbor to Neighbor Sharing Market which took place this August!
Over 100 of our Cramer Hill Neighbors had the opportunity to browse through tables stocked with donated clothes, toys, books, towels, sheets, home decor, and essential household items. Thanks to the overwhelming generosity of our family of volunteers and supporters near and far, families left with bags filled with practical housewares that truly met their needs.
🌍 Good for the community, good for the Earth!
Our seasonal Sharing Market is also a wonderful way to care for creation. By recycling and repurposing these items, we encourage true sustainability and significantly reduce waste in our environment.
❤️ Hearts full of gratitude:
A massive thank you to everyone who donated goods and spent hours organizing and displaying items for our neighbors.
We want to extend a very special shout-out and thank you to The Love In Action Group St Joan of Arc Parish Your dedicated service and deep generosity helped make this Sharing Market a beautiful, huge success. We are so blessed by your partnership in mission!

I take a moment to dedicate each ordinary task to God.
Christ has no body now but mine.
Is it obvious that I live knowing Earth’s resources are a gift meant for all to share?
