Our eleventh and final country from the book "Can You Say Peace?" is Bolivia. We have two musical instruments in our Cultures program from Bolivia. The first is the siku (SEE – koo), a traditional panpipe wind instrument originally from the Aymará (AY – mah –rah) people of western Bolivia. Sikus can be different sizes but they usually have 13 pipes made of bamboo. The second is the tobilleras (TOE – bee – yay – rahs), a shaker percussion instrument that is worn around the ankle and played by moving the heel of the foot up and down. It is often use to accompany music played on the siku.

Our tenth country from the book "Can You Say Peace?" is Ghana. Our Ghanaian musical instrument in our Cultures program is an Axatse (ah – HOT – say). An axatse is a gourd rattle percussion instrument. The gourd is hollowed out and beads are strung around the large part of the gourd. The instrument originated with the Ewe (AY – way) people in Ghana and neighboring Togo. It is usually played by tapping it between the hand and upper leg.

Our eighth country from the book "Can You Say Peace?" is China. Our Chinese musical instrument in our Cultures program is a gong. A gong is a metal percussion instrument that can be used in the performance of music and for ceremonies. Gongs are used in China as well as other countries. Ours is made of brass.

Our seventh country from the book "Can You Say Peace?" is Russia. Our Russian musical instrument in our Cultures program is a tambourine. A tambourine is a drum-like musical instrument that often has small cymbals called “zils” along the wooded frame. Tambourines are used in many cultures throughout the world including Russia. They can be used by dancers as part of their performance.

Our sixth country from the book "Can You Say Peace?" is Iran. Our Iranian musical instrument in our Cultures program is the daf. A daf is a large frame drum that looks like a big tambourine. They sometimes have small cymbals on the sides or other metal chain-like attachments in the back that enhance the sound. Ours is about 20 inches in diameter. The picture shows it next to a 12-inch tambourine.

Our fifth country from the book "Can You Say Peace?" is Mexico. Our Mexican musical instrument in our Cultures program is maracas. Maracas are a shaker percussion instrument. Traditional maracas are made of a gourd shell filled with seeds or dried beans with an attached handle.

Our fourth country from the book "Can You Say Peace?" is Australia. Our Australian musical instrument in our Cultures program is clap sticks. Clap sticks are traditional percussion instruments that are used by the native people of Australia. They are played by striking or “clapping” them together. They are often used to accompany another native instrument called the didgeridoo, a type of wooden trumpet.
