CAMDEN ONCE MADE PENS THAT HELPED WRITE HISTORY!

Long before computers and smartphones, Camden, New Jersey, was home to the Esterbrook Pen Company.

Founded by Richard Esterbrook in 1858, the company became one of America’s leading manufacturers of steel writing pens. At its height, Esterbrook employed hundreds of workers, producing pens used by students, writers, artists, and professionals.

The factory stood on Cooper Street, becoming part of Camden’s proud industrial heritage.

Think about it: a product made right here in Camden helped people across America put their thoughts, stories, and history on paper!

📜 Camden wasn’t just a place where history happened. It was a place where products that shaped everyday life were made.

Have you ever wondered how Camden, New Jersey, got the names of its streets? 🤔

Some of our streets carry the names of the families who helped build our city. Others reflect the roads, businesses, and early plans that shaped Camden generations ago.

📜 Did you know?

• Cooper Street was named after the Cooper family, early settlers who played a major role in Camden’s development.

• Federal Street was originally known as Joseph Cooper’s Lane before Joshua Cooper gave it its present name in 1803.

• Market Street was laid out in Camden’s original town plan in 1773 and became an important commercial corridor.

These streets are more than names on a sign. They are part of the story of how Camden grew from an early settlement into the city we know today.
