Amber Preskenis knows firsthand how much a positive interaction with law enforcement can mean, particularly when someone is going through the darkest moments of their life.

Reflecting on her own experience while struggling with addiction, Amber shared: “Being treated with compassion, respect, and understanding reminded me that I was still a person who mattered.”

That experience stayed with her and showed her how one positive encounter can provide hope, preserve dignity, and remind someone that change is possible.

Amber remains grateful to the officers and detectives who reminded her that she was worth the change.

Building trust starts with being proactive and reaching out to the community.

Members of the Newark Police Department regularly attend NAACP meetings to provide updates, answer questions, and hear directly from residents. That ongoing dialogue helps strengthen relationships and build greater understanding between law enforcement and the community.

Delaware is open for business — and law enforcement is making it happen.

Last week, Delaware launched its first-ever Entertainment and Production Tax Credit Program, a $10 million initiative designed to bring film, TV, esports, and video game productions to our state. It's an investment in Delaware's economy, creating jobs and opportunities for local businesses, workers, and communities.

But tax credits alone don't make a production run smoothly — that takes coordination on the ground, and that's where local law enforcement comes in.

Just last week, the independent film "Unaccompanied Minor" wrapped up filming in historic Old New Castle. Behind the scenes, the City of New Castle Police Department worked directly with the production to make it happen safely and smoothly: coordinating street closures and traffic control, providing police presence and first response during filming in public spaces, and enforcing local noise ordinances to protect residents.

This is what it looks like when a community says yes to opportunity. Delaware's police departments aren't just supporting public safety during productions — they're a critical part of the infrastructure that makes our state an attractive place to film in the first place.

Several streets will be closed in historic Old New Castle over the next two days as the film 'Unaccompanied Minor' is filmed.

Delaware is leading the way when it comes to professional policing standards.

Strong standards help ensure every officer has the training, resources, and support needed to serve their community effectively.

The Delaware Police Chiefs are proud to have worked with members of the Delaware General Assembly to push for policies that strengthen law enforcement and make our communities safer.

Today we remember the nearly 3,000 Americans who lost their lives and honor the first responders who made the ultimate sacrifice.

High standards make a difference. That’s why the Delaware Police Chiefs are proud that Delaware leads the nation by requiring every police department to have an accountability board.

It’s an important part of our commitment to transparency,
accountability, and continuous improvement, and ultimately, to providing the best possible policing for the communities we serve.

Real police reform requires showing up.

Meaningful reform means more than changing policies. It means transparency, accountability, clear standards, and a commitment to showing up for the communities we serve.

Strong law enforcement agencies should be held to high standards, and given the tools, training, and support needed to meet them.
