Midcoast Maine Autism Support Group

Midcoast Maine Autism Support Group A interactive social group for children & young adults with a disability, and a forum for parents to network, learn and support each other.

The Midcoast Maine Autism Support Group started in September 2014 as a social group for children and young adults with a disability, and a forum for parents and families to network, learn and support each other. The group currently meets on the second Saturday of every month from 10:00 - 11:30. The children's group is overseen by a LCPC, and the parent / caregivers support group by a Social Worker

. Children with disabilities focus on social skills, group interaction, sensory integration, and learning through play and creative arts. (*Note: although trained professionals are present, their role is to facilitate and lead the group and not provide individual care or behavior management. It is important that every child participating has individualized support available if needed). Parents / caregivers meet as a group to discuss topics and concerns of interest based on input from the previous meeting. More importantly, it provides a relaxing atmosphere for parents and caregivers to relax, vent, socialize and network with others. Refreshments are provided. Children are encouraged to bring their own snack and drink. The Midcoast Maine Autism Support Group is a Community Outreach program of the Seton School and Institute and a free resource for the community, including other local service providers and their clients.
