All Thanks and Praise to God, who in approximately 1893, allowed a group of dedicated and faithful believers, to organize and formulate a place of worship called: Macedonia Baptist Church. During its inception, Macedonia, like many African American Churches, began as a mere Bush Harbor, located approximately 2 miles down a dirt road, off of what is now Baron Dekalb Road, near Flint Hill Baptist Church. Previous Pastors who served with dignity and much dedication were: Reverend Watts, Reverend Eugene Mickles, Reverend Johnson, Reverend M. Wade, Reverend Dennis, Reverend C.E. McCoy, and Reverend Robert Stover. Our current Pastor is Reverend Gregory Van Mallory. Under his, and other Pastors’ leadership, and by God’s Grace, Macedonia Baptist Church has evolved to what it is today. 1944 was a pivotal year in the history of our Church. Under the pastoral leadership of Reverend C.E. McCoy, the church was rebuilt into a more modern and comfortable place of worship. At the end of Reverend McCoy’s tenure, it was Reverend Stover who led the church to make significant physical changes, adding bricking, underpinning, the Fellowship Hall and additional restrooms. Presently, Macedonia is continuing to strive and thrive under the innovative leadership of Pastor Mallory. The Lord is using Pastor Mallory and his wife mightily to help win souls to Christ. With the help of Associate Minister, Ruth Omonijo, the Deacon and Trustee Ministries, as well as the Auxiliary Ministries of the Church, many notable gains have been made. Macedonia moved from having church services twice a month to every Sunday. Bible Study is on Tuesday and Wednesday of each week, with prayer service preceding each. By God’s Grace, and the help of His people, Pastor Mallory has initiated other Ministries and Services at Macedonia Baptist Church. Significantly, they are: Quarterly Business
Meetings, The Baptist Training Union (known as “BTU”), Macedonia’s Leadership and Bible Institutes, our Building Program and Projects, our Family, Community, and International Outreach Ministries, which now includes the Prison Ministry, Public School Mentoring Program, Macedonia’s Food Pantry, Accounting and Finance Procedures, Minister of Music, Mass and Youth Choirs, Praise Team, and our Prayer and Praise/Worship Services. Our Christian Education Ministry includes: Sunday School, Annual Vacation Bible School for Children and Adults, Summer Youth Literacy, Adult Literacy, and High School Graduation Service. We continue to recognize our children who have excelled in school during the school year, as well as provide Black History Programs which highlight local, historical and spiritual contributions of notable African Americans.
