South Carolina teachers and parents of creative students, this is for you! 🎨✨

The Governor’s Art Contest on Litter Prevention: Litter Trashes Everyone is officially open for K–5 students across the state. This is a unique opportunity for young artists to showcase their creativity while learning the importance of keeping South Carolina beautiful 🌱

🏆 Winners at both the regional and statewide levels will receive cash prizes and be honored at the South Carolina State House. PLUS—the statewide winner’s artwork will be transformed into a mural in their school or community by a professional artist!

We are grateful for the support of Gov. Henry McMaster and Lt. Gov. Pamela Evette, who recognize that litter prevention begins with education. 🚫 Found an illegal dumpsite or trash where it doesn't belong? It might be tempting to clean it up right away, but here’s the right way to handle it:

1️⃣ Do NOT touch anything. It is a crime scene! Moving items could interfere with an investigation.
2️⃣ Take photos and be sure to note the location. Write down the coordinates, nearest address, landmarks, or drop a pin on your phone.
3️⃣ Report it. Contact your local law enforcement, ideally your local litter control officers if you have them. You can find your county contact info on our website. You can also report through PalmettoPride’s Litter Busters Hotline: 1-877-7-LITTER, and let us take it from there.
4️⃣ Stay safe. Some materials may be hazardous—leave it to the professionals.

👉 PalmettoPride works with the South Carolina Litter Control Association and the SC Department of Environmental Services to crack down on illegal dumping across our state. Reporting a dumpsite not only starts the process of restoring the area, but also discourages repeat dumping and prevents it from becoming a hot spot.
