Dr. King dreamed of what he called the “beloved community”—a future where love drives out hate, and people of all races, backgrounds, and beliefs live and work together in peace.

That future doesn’t arrive on its own. It’s built day by day through our shared choices:

When we listen instead of label
When we reach across lines of difference
When we choose reconciliation over resentment

As a community, we commit to being builders of that beloved community—right where we are. Dr. King’s dream is not just a memory; it’s a mission. And together, we have the power to move that dream of the future closer to reality.

So join us, tomorrow at the MLK Unity Day Celebration. Help us continue to strive toward a better community, like the one that Dr. King envisioned.

Dr. King’s dream wasn’t just about harmony—it was about justice, equality, and real opportunity for everyone. He imagined a future where every child, no matter where they’re born or what they look like, has the chance to learn, grow, and thrive.

As a group, we’re asking ourselves: What are we doing to help build that future?

Are we speaking up when we see unfair treatment?
Are we supporting opportunities for those who have been left out or overlooked?
Are we creating spaces where everyone is treated with dignity and respect?
We honor Dr. King by refusing to accept inequality as “just the way things are.” His dream calls us, collectively, to help create a future where everyone can stand tall, free, and fully valued.

As we look ahead, our group is reflecting on the dream that Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. shared with the world—a future where our differences don’t divide us, but enrich us.

Dr. King dreamed of a day when people would be judged not by the color of their skin, but by the content of their character. That vision is as urgent and powerful today as it was then.

Together, we choose to believe that his dream is still alive. Every act of kindness, every moment of understanding, every time we choose fairness over prejudice brings us one step closer. As a community, let’s keep his dream in front of us as we move through the days ahead.

The time is almost here for the MLK Unity Day 2026!

We want to see your smiling faces at the following places on Saturday, January 17th, 2026.

We are calling our Kershaw County students and families, school athletic teams and clubs, church congregations and youth groups, various organizations and community leaders, elected officials and all citizens and friends to be in attendance for the fifth MLK Day Celebration.

The gathering for the march will begin at 10:45 AM at the African American Cultural Center, located at 517 York Street, Camden. Coffee, hot chocolate, refreshments and greetings will be available.

We will march to City Hall, 1000 Lyttleton Street, where the program will officially begin at 12:00 PM, noon.

Come and enjoy a day of unity, youth speakers, and entertainment from two school choirs. Antjuan Seawright, (consultant, strategist and renown speaker) will be the MC for the event.
