🚲✨ BOSTON, LET’S RIDE THE NECKLACE ✨🚲
This spring, we’re turning pedals into power.
LiveableStreets, Emerald Necklace Conservancy, Mattapan Food & Fitness, Boston Cyclists Union, and community partners are coming together for a 3-part bike ride series along the Emerald Necklace and YOU’RE invited.
Each ride will be at a relaxed pace for 3–4 miles, with volunteers helping lead us safely on bike paths and lanes through Boston and Brookline.
We’re riding to raise awareness about the Emerald Necklace multi-use path and to amplify mobility justice across our city. This is about more than a bike ride. It’s about experiencing the
This series is for everyone, new and seasoned riders.
Thanks to Blue Bikes, a limited number of free bike vouchers will be available for riders who need a bike.
We’re also looking for volunteers to help support the rides and keep the group moving safely, so if you’d like to help lead or support along the route, we’d love to have you join us.

Today is Transit Employee Appreciation Day 💙
Every day, transit workers show up—early mornings, late nights, in all weather—to keep our region moving. From bus drivers to train operators to the people working behind the scenes, their work makes our communities possible.
This year, LivableStreets partnered with the Conservation Law Foundation to create thank-you cards for transit employees across the system. It’s a small way to show our appreciation for the people who keep us connected & thriving!
If you’re riding today, take a moment to say thank you to your bus driver or train operator. A simple gesture can go a long way.

Two major snowstorms this winter left many Boston residents—especially older adults and people with disabilities—navigating buried curb ramps, blocked bus stops, and impassable sidewalks weeks after the storm. ❄️
LivableStreets’ Maha Aslam urged the Boston City Council to learn from other snowy cities and take a more strategic approach to snow clearance in a snow hearing two weeks ago.
“Boston does not have a clear system of prioritization when it comes to what streets, sidewalks, and bus stops are cleared first—and why. This should be public-facing and data-driven so we can use our resources more effectively.”
Snow removal isn’t just about roads. It’s about safe access to transit, schools, and daily life.
LivableStreets is calling for:
• A clear, equity-based snow clearance prioritization plan
• Continued sidewalk clearing after storms until routes are fully accessible
• Fixing reporting gaps when routes are marked “complete” but remain blocked
• A paid emergency snow-shoveling workforce (like programs in New York City)
• A real-time snow transparency portal similar to PlowNYC
• Sidewalk-focused programs like the Snow Ambassador pilot in Minneapolis

Last week, LSA testified at the State House in support of two important transportation bills at the Joint Committee on Transportation hearing. 🚍✨

Freedom to Move Act (H.3726): Expands affordable options like transit, biking, and walking while cutting pollution from highways.

Fare-Free Buses (H.3623): Requires the MBTA and all RTAs to launch a one-year fare-free bus pilot by 2026, covering key routes with strong equity and community oversight.

It was inspiring to stand alongside our partners, advocating for a transportation system that works for everyone! 💛
