Green Mountain Rangers Fife and Drum Band
Greetings and salutations!
Welcome to a place where living history, tradition, fellowship, love of state and country and music collide.
A quick background on why I started the band. My name is William Allen. I am 14th Generation Descended from Samuel Allen (born 1620 in Essex County, England) Who arrived here at the age of 10 in 1630 with the Dorchester Company. Ebeneezer Allen (of Vermont, Green Mountain Boy and Revolutionary war fame) was 6th Generation and my 6th time Great Grandfather.
I grew up playing in a fife and drum band.
I am a proud Veteran of the U.S. Coast Guard. Son of a Veteran and grandson of Veteran's stretching back to the Revolution and French and Indian War.
I own Sterling Drums in Cambridge Vermont. On top of building drum kits and snares for the last 25 years and having done repair work on antique and vintage drums I have now added reproduction rope tension marching snares and basses. Revolutionary war to Civil war models.
That being said, With the 250th anniversary of our country next year 1776-2026 and the 250th anniversary of the Vermont Republic 1777-2027 I had been seriously considering starting a fife and drum band of our own here in Vermont. I am currently working on 3 snare drums and 3 bass drums to be used with the band. Green Mountain Rangers will be a non-profit organization and historical teaching tool celebrating Vermont history and Vermont's contribution to the Revolutionary War and beyond.
We are looking for others to join us. I will teach drums if you don't know how to play. Also, Fifers, Color Guard(carry Flags) Rangers(Musket carriers) and a Major to lead the band.
We plan on performing in parades, functions and events.
All profits will be donated to charity for Veterans causes and others TBD.
While being a Veteran, descended from the Allen family or The Green Mountain Boys is always a plus, we will be open to all who wish to follow the call!
I have a rehearsal space here at the drum shop we can rehearse at and meet as well.
I have the basic look for uniforms and kit and welcome input on that too.
Feel free to reach out if you are interested.
Respectfully,
William Allen
