As the Cambridge Valley Balloon Festival takes to the skies this weekend, be sure to take a moment to look down, too!

Students from Darcy's Drawing Class have transformed the Hubbard Block sidewalks with colorful chalk art inspired by the spirit and wonder of hot air balloons. Their creativity has added a little extra magic to downtown Cambridge, and we hope you'll take a stroll and enjoy these incredible works of art.

After you've explored the sidewalk gallery, join us inside Hubbard Hall for the Music From Salem Viola & Violin Emerging Artists Concert this Sunday, June 7 at 4:00 pm. Featuring some of today's most promising young string musicians, it's the perfect way to cap off a weekend celebrating creativity and community.

πŸ“° Hubbard Hall in the News!

It's been exciting to see Hubbard Hall featured in several recent stories highlighting the role arts organizations play in strengthening our communities and regional economy.

We're proud to be participating in the Warren-Washington Industrial Development Agency's new study measuring the economic impact of the arts across our region, helping demonstrate how arts and culture contribute to local businesses, tourism, and quality of life.

We've also been recognized as part of this summer's collaborative programming at Williams College's '62 Center for Theatre and Dance in Williamstown. As part of the inaugural Summer at the '62 Center series, Hubbard Hall will present a special preview concert featuring selections from Sunday in the Park with George, along with performances of A Midsummer Night's Dream.

As Executive Director Erin Harrington shared with the Times Union, "We've long seen ourselves as serving the artistic community that stretches across the New York-Massachusetts border, and it's especially meaningful to deepen that connection this summer."

Thank you to our artists, audiences, supporters, and community partners for helping make this work possible. The arts thrive when communities invest in creativity, collaboration, and connection.

It takes a village to bring a production like Sunday in the Park with George to life, and we're lucky to have an incredible one. 🎭

Today's video features members of our scenic build team hard at work transforming Hubbard Hall for what will be our biggest production of the year. From building and painting scenery to running backstage, operating lights and sound, helping with costumes, and preparing the theater for audiences, volunteers make it all possible.

We're currently looking for volunteers for:

🎨 Scenic Painters
Saturday, June 6 at 3:30 PM

πŸ’‘ Light & Sound Operator (1 position)

🎭 Backstage Crew (1–2 positions)

Volunteers for these production roles should be available for all performances and as much of tech week as possible:

πŸ“… Technical Rehearsals: June 13, 16, 17 & 18 (times TBD)

🎟 Performances: June 19–28
Fridays & Saturdays at 7:30 PM
Sundays at 2:00 PM

Step inside one of the most breathtaking and celebrated musicals ever written. Stephen Sondheim and James Lapine’s Pulitzer Prize-winning Sunday in the Park with George is a stunning journey through art, love, obsession, and the human need to create something that lasts.

Inspired by Georges Seurat’s masterpiece A Sunday Afternoon on the Island of La Grande Jatte, this visually rich and emotionally powerful musical brings the painting to life before your eyes. As colors blend, figures emerge, and music soars, audiences are drawn into the mind of an artist determined to change the world through his work β€” no matter the personal cost.

In Act One, painter Georges Seurat struggles to complete the revolutionary work that will define his legacy while his relationship with Dot, his devoted and longing muse, begins to unravel. Torn between connection and ambition, George must decide what he is willing to sacrifice for his art.

A century later, Act Two follows another artist, also named George, as he wrestles with creative burnout, modern expectations, and the fear of losing his own artistic voice. In searching for inspiration, he discovers that the answers to moving forward may lie in understanding the past.

Filled with unforgettable music, dazzling imagery, and profound emotional depth, Sunday in the Park with George is more than a musical. It is an experience. Whether you are a lifelong theater lover or discovering Sondheim for the first time, this production promises an evening of beauty, heart, and inspiration that will stay with you long after the final note.
