The world often tells Black and Brown girls to be silent. BWF grantee Love Your Magic offers the community, education, and confidence building that helps girls of color find their voice and use it to navigate and disrupt harmful systems. Thanks, WBZ News | CBS News Boston and Levan Reid for elevating Love Your Magic’s mission!

We’re honored to fund Love Your Magic’s work to uplift Black and Brown girls and support their positive identity development.

With BWF’s support, Love Your Magic was able to make their transformative annual summer camp free for all attendees.

Increasing access. Supporting movements. Trusting incredible leaders. That’s why we’re in this work.

During the racial reckoning of 2020, organizations expressed profound commitment to supporting leaders of color. But then, the winds changed. Our report “Carrying the Weight, Leading the Change” sought to map the impact of that change on women of color leading small nonprofits.

Step inside the Horizon Collective — where leadership meets liberation.

Over six months, women and gender-expansive leaders of color come together to rest, reflect, and reimagine what leadership can look like when care and courage lead the way.

The Horizon Collective includes:
→Six in-person sessions that create space for reflection, learning, and deep community building.
→ A two-day overnight retreat designed to rest, restore, and reconnect with purpose — grounded in the belief that wellness and liberation belong together.
→ A liberatory leadership journey where personal healing meets professional growth, and participants strengthen boundaries, clarity, and courage.
→ A vibrant alumni network that continues to collaborate, support one another, and rise together long after the program ends.

Applications are open through November 3 at 11:59 PM EST.

In 2024, you stood with us when it mattered most. You recognized the urgency, the injustice, and the power of action—and you showed up. Because of you, the Boston Women’s Fund pushed boundaries, rewrote the rules, and supported grassroots leaders who refuse to wait for permission to create change.

Thank you for your partnership. Thank you for your belief in this work. Thank you for standing with us. The fight isn’t over, but we’re ready for what’s next—because of you.

We are so excited to present our Leading Us Toward Liberation honorees!

In October 2023, we asked you: who are the innovative changemakers who have touched your life and the lives of your community members? Who are the women, girls, and gender-expansive individuals who have fought for their communities and have yet to receive their flowers? We received 86 nominations of incredible unsung heroes and beloved community leaders in the Greater Boston area. Our Selection Committee spent six months getting to know the nominees, their commitment to our collective liberation, and their impact on community. These 40 honorees — our Liberation Leaders — emerged as some of the most innovative changemakers trying to create new systems for our communities to thrive.

Learn more about each of these incredible leaders at bit.ly/3XvfU9E, and be sure to stay connected as we uplift their work!
