Boston Lykeion Ellinidon Our troupe is dedicated to sharing Greek culture with broader audiences in the Boston area through both performance and classes.

Celebrating Hellenic culture and traditions since 1998, the Boston Lykeion Ellinidon is a volunteer-run, non-profit organization dedicated to the preservation and promotion of Greek culture through performances, classes, workshops, and special events. The Boston Lykeion Ellinidon (BLE) is a volunteer-run, 501(c)(3) non-profit organization dedicated to the preservation and promotion of traditional

Hellenic culture in New England. A chapter of the international Lykeion ton Ellinidon (Λύκειον των Eλληνίδων) headquartered in Athens, Greece, the BLE celebrates the diversity of Greece’s distinctive regional cultures, and strives to enrich, educate, and entertain through a rich program of dance performances, classes, workshops, lectures and special events. Under the direction of Michael Savas, the BLE dance troupe entertains audiences across New England with performances that embrace the diverse regional dance traditions and musical styles of the Hellenic world. The troupe’s spirited presentations of Greek folk culture, featuring authentic local attires, are popular with the Greek community and international audiences alike, and it performs year-round at cultural festivals, fundraisers, commemorations and numerous other events. In recent years, the BLE dance troupe has appeared at Boston’s Museum of Fine Arts and Museum of Science, Fenway Park, Jose Mateo Ballet Theater’s Dance for World Community Festival, and Outside the Box Boston, to name a few. We hope that those intrigued by our performances will also join us for our open dance classes, every Wednesday from 6-8 p.m. in Central Square (Greek-American Political Club, 288 Green St., Cambridge, MA.) Did you know that the first major performance by the Lykeion ton Ellinidon took place on May 1, 1911 at the Zappeion in Athens, Greece? Led by founder Kalliroi Siganou-Parren, the women from the Lykeion celebrated Protomaia with an Anthesteria – the Festival of the Flowers. The women wore recreations of ancient Greece dress and traditional attire of Megara and performed dances including sytros, ballos, kalamatiano, and the pentozalis.

Since the inception of the Boston Marathon Wreath Ceremony, the women of the Boston Lykeion Ellinidon have had the privilege of presenting the wreaths to be awarded to the Marathon winners. The BLE was honored and proud to be invited again to participate in this year’s ceremony. We had the pleasure of celebrating with Consul-General Tegos, the Alpha-Omega Council, the Boston Athletic Association, and, this year, with the son of 1946 famed Marathon winner Stylianos Kyriakides.
