This September 18, Chile celebrates Fiestas Patrias!

It is the country’s national celebration, a moment that brings Chileans together across cities, regions, and borders.

But here is a detail many people miss: September 18 is not the day Chile signed its independence.

That happened on February 12, 1818.

September 18 remembers the open cabildo held in Santiago in 1810, where the First National Government Junta was formed. It was one of the first steps in Chile’s path toward becoming an independent republic.

That is why Fiestas Patrias is not only about celebrating Chile. It is also about remembering the beginning of a process: a country choosing to imagine and build its own future.

From ChileMass, we send our warmest wishes to the Chilean community in Massachusetts, in the United States, and around the world. We are proud to keep building bridges between Chile and Massachusetts through people, ideas, and collaboration.

¡Felices Fiestas Patrias!

At Chile Massachusetts Alliance, we are proud to celebrate a new international milestone for Humos de la Patagonia, a Chilean green tech company co-founded by Fernando Ojeda Soto and Felipe Bermúdez.

The company was selected to participate in OktoberINVESTfest LATAM 2026, an international investment event taking place on October 6, 2026, in Rosario, Argentina. This milestone is especially meaningful as part of our ongoing collaboration with Universidad Andrés Bello. Ahead of the selection event in Concepción, we supported Felipe Bermúdez with English pitch preparation, helping strengthen the company’s presentation for an international stage.

Our connection with Humos de la Patagonia began through the 2023 Innovative Entrepreneurship Support Program of Endowment UNAB, which led to a 2024 Boston immersion experience connecting participants with Massachusetts’ innovation ecosystem.

Since then, the company has continued to grow and gain recognition, including the Avonni Patagonia Recognition in 2025 and Forbes Chile’s 30 Under 30 in 2026 for Fernando Ojeda Soto.

Congratulations to Humos de la Patagonia on this important achievement!
