Henley Moore and Aya McKeen received a Choptank500 grant on behalf of Pine Shat Productions. Their project is “a series of shorts featuring local actors performing monologues in distinctive Eastern Shore scenery/locations.” Grant funds will help offset production costs. We look forward to seeing the completed video production and think it’s great that monologues will have a moment in the local spotlight!

Local artist Lillian Pennypacker recently received a 2026 Choptank500 grant. Grant funds will support her work on a mural she was commissioned to paint indoors at the Eastern Shore Innovation Center in Cambridge. The mural will be in the Surrealist style. Grant panel members got a sneak peek at Lillian’s planning image and we are excited to help bring this unique work of art to Dorchester County!

Traditional Irish music is a vibrant, predominantly melodic, folk genre. Rooted in oral tradition, it spans fast-paced dance tunes—reels (4/4), jigs (6/8), and polkas (2/4)—and slow, expressive airs, often characterized by intricate ornamentation.

Please come and enjoy many of your favorite traditional Irish pieces, as well as some that will be new to you.

Mid-Shore Community Band is a past Choptank500 grant recipient. 🎼🎷🎺

We are thrilled to announce our first round of Choptank500 grant recipients for 2026! We were able to fund five grants from a large competitive field of applicants.

The first recipient featured is Jakia DeShields, representing Crown Your Beauty Cinderella Pageant. This organization is building “a youth development scholarship program created by women, for women.” This program will serve high school senior girls providing them with skills and confidence as they transition to college and/or career paths. CACE looks forward to following this new initiative!

The Exchange: 2025 is our two-page impact reflection.

One page offers perspective on why we do this work, and the other shares a snapshot of how that work showed up in community in 2025.

With two years behind us, we look ahead to continuing the exchange in 2026.

This summer, Cookie Gross attended the Cherry Tree Young Writers’ Conference at Washington College as the first-ever recipient of the Choptank Arts & Culture Exchange Dorchester Young Writers Scholarship.

Cherry Tree allowed Cookie to focus on writing for themselves, connect with fellow young authors, and explore their passion for storytelling in a supportive community.

Watch Cookie share their experience, insights, and how the conference helped them grow as a poet and storyteller: https://youtu.be/IMdsXmVEiOw

Don’t forget to like, share, and subscribe to our channel to follow more stories like Cookie’s!

Each year, the Dorchester Young Writers Scholarship provides one local student the chance to attend this nationally recognized program. Applications for 2026 will open next spring.
