🙌🙌 and a warm welcome to the newest Igniter Dan who will be bringing his superpowers to our legal team as our new Co-General Counsel. Dan will be collaborating with our Legal Advisor Group & G.C team as they power both our 501c3 and 501c4 (in-formation) entities' legal, ethics, and values-based alignment and compliance.
Dan is the first of eight incredible Igniters who we’re excited to introduce you to over the coming few weeks as we restart our socials and bring you up to speed on everything Ignite related - the highs & lows, successful & unsuccessful experiments, learning insights collected & everything else in-between. Longer form intros are also coming soon.

We founded Ignite with a commitment to finding or making a way to catalyze the changes needed (on a state, national & then global level) to equip every student with the ability to avoid, overcome, or effectively manage any mental health challenge. It has only been with the support, collaboration, feedback, and co-learning from an incredible community, team, and alumni network that we have been able to engage in such far-reaching experimentation, pilot different models, learn quickly from mistakes and iterate to the point of (GASSSSSP) having the infrastructure, decentralized leadership, and Campus Leader network all but ready to kick off our expanded experimentation, campaigns and Ignite Accelerator actions across all 50 states.

We couldn't be more excited to be on this important journey with you all and are looking forward to keeping you updated on the highs & lows, mistakes & learnings, iterations & pivots and most importantly - impact & moonshot development ahead.

The building stage is over. Now is when the gloves really come off 🔥🔥

Launching Ignite Campus's Pilot this February on 120+ campuses in 33 states, initiating the federal/university campaign efforts and connecting research-backed resources to campuses despite COVID-19 was a fierce and impressive start 👊

This summer however, with COVID-19 spreading and student mental health set to worsen, we knew we needed to devise a way to help more students and achieve our directional student mental health literacy and access goals much faster.

1️⃣ Since then & currently:
Powered by the support of the Ignite community, Advisors and stakeholders 👊: building Ignite 2.0. ➟ Redesigning and iterating Ignite’s model, staffing and strategy to focus exclusively on literacy & access aligned state/federal level legislative changes and scalable solutions. Alongside:

👉 Interviewing and hiring the 12-strong Executive Team needed to lead Ignite’s critical functions and take care of our growing team.
👉 Scaling a new Changemaker Program to 1000+ colleges during Fall 2020.
👉 Developing Ignite's unifying student mental health literacy and access targets.
👉 Formulating the first draft of Ignite’s national and state legislative game plan.
👉 Designing and beta testing a National Student Congress model & student leadership structure.
👉 Hiring and onboarding our co-DEI officers & incoming Board members.
👉 & ofc tackling / learning from every obstacle, humble learning experience, barrier, mistake, timeline pivot and challenge along the way   👊
-

2️⃣ Group specific updates:
👉 Ignite Campus Alumni: Check out Meredith’s email for info on the weekly Zoom Call, every Fri 2pm EST.
👉 Ignite HQ Alumni: Keep an eye out for a HQ Alumni email update together with a huge thank you, ways to get involved & other key info.
👉 Anyone who has contacted or applied: We appreciate your patience & are trying our best to respond ASAP.
-
State-level student mental health literacy & access policy changes should have been passed years, if not decades, ago.
-
We’re proud to rise to the challenge alongside you all and build Ignite 2.0 to empower more students to help achieve these changes, faster.

2020 is when the gloves really come off👊

It’s not enough for an organization to simply Tweet . We can always do better at demanding and creating a more just and equitable world.
Words and statuses are not enough though.
We believe Ignite MUST work to lead the way in creating this world, reduce systematic bias, racism, and unequal treatment.

👉 As a newly incorporated nonprofit we‘ve set up an interim Diversity, Equality and Inclusion Advisory Board to ensure we set and achieve unwavering standards, not only during our first year as a nonprofit but for years to come.
👉 Mandatory subconscious bias training, regular audits of all of our internal practices and zero-tolerance culture reinforcements are just a handful of the measures we will be implementing ASAP ahead of the September 2020 academic year program.
👉 As our Founder continues the search for boldly transformational Board of Director, CEO & Executive Team candidates - diverse representation and a demonstrated commitment to truly lead the charge for equality without compromise, are MUSTS on his list.

This is only the start for us though. Acting together we can, and WILL, create the equitable, just, and fair world we so desperately need.

Kicking ass and taking names🔥🔥 .

A HUGE 👏 to the Igniters who powered another successful campaign. Thanks to you, 70%+ of the Congresspeople scheduled to vote on the $2 trillion CARES Act were urged to remove barriers which would prevent students from accessing the mental health treatments they sorely need during COVID-19 pandemic. Also to approve funding for Emergency Grants at SAMHSA. .

The CARES Act incorporated provisions for both, including broadened telehealth and $50 million earmarked for su***de prevention programs. Yes you did read that correctly. 50 Million 💵s. .
_ 👏 to the orgs, constituents, legislators and Igniters and who played a part in making this possible.

This is only the beginning🔥.

🙌🏾🙌🏾 to the badass team of 150+ Igniters across America. Fighting to transform the future of student mental health 👊

Since officially kicking-off Ignite Campus just 2.5 months ago in Feb 2020 they've launched:
✅ Federal Legislation Campaign: 300+ Congresspeople
✅ National Action Campaign: Targeting 200+ colleges representing 1.2 million students
✅ College Policy Change Campaign: Targeting 120+ College Campuses
✅ America's Biggest Data Collection: The US College Mental Health Crisis
✅ Not to mention this weeks live campaigns targeting 1000+ colleges.

If this is what we can achieve in just 2.5 months on a TINY budget, imagine how many students we're going to impact over the next 12 🔥🔥
