Sixteen years ago, 11-year-old Rowena (pseudonym) made this perspective drawing of a Menger sponge.
For proper perspective, there's a precise mathematical relationship between the lengths of the sides of the sponge in the drawing. Deviation makes the object look like a rectangular block instead of a perfect cube. Rowena invented her own mathematical method to ensure that her drawing exhibits this exact relationship.
It was an early clue that girls go deep when they create their own math projects and inexorably led us to a curriculum-free approach to math education.
It adorns the cover of Volume 3, Number 4 of the Girls' Angle Bulletin:https://girlsangle.org/page/bulletin-archive/GABv03n04E.pdf
(The original was designed to be viewed from 2.5 feet away, so to get the 3D illusion with this scaled version, you have to put your eye pretty close to the screen!)
