Meet the crew of HMS Pinafore: The Next Generation

Harsh Singh (Cousin H**e) is learning empathy by playing the hoity toity and the humble. He is discovering the expressive world of acting while also learning how to sing, read music, and dance. As he falls into the third Gilbert and Sullivan play this year, he is filled with inspiration at the exceptional level of talent that surrounds him.

Only two performances of HMS Pinafore left! Tickets available for tonight's 8:00 PM performance and tomorrow's 2:00 PM performance available at http://tickets.mit.edu.

Meet the crew of HMS Pinafore: The Next Generation

Julianne Freeman (Josephine) is thrilled to participate in her twelfth Gilbert and Sullivan production! Her love of G&S dates back to 2008, when she was given a solo in a Methuen Young People’s Theatre production of The Mikado. Past G&S roles include Elsie in The Yeomen of the Guard, Angelina in Trial by Jury, Yum-Yum in The Mikado, and Mabel in The Pirates of Penzance. Julianne has also taken part in the Classical High School division of various vocal competitions, in which she placed third for the 2017 Boston NATS Student Auditions, earned the title of Boston Regional First Round Winner in the 2016 Classical Singer Competition, and became a finalist in the 2016 Schmidt Youth Vocal Competition. When she is not performing, Julianne enjoys singing in the shower, writing novels, consuming excessive amounts of sugary foods, taking naps, and traveling abroad.

HMS Pinafore returns for three more performances starting this Thursday, May 10th at 8:00 PM. Tickets and more info at http://tickets.mit.edu.

Meet the crew of HMS Pinafore: The Next Generation

Gabriel Ellsworth (Ralph Rackstraw) returns to the MITG&SP stage after playing a courtroom usher whose attempts to maintain silence in court were—he hopes—almost deafening (Trial by Jury, IAP 2018). He began his Savoyard career as an oboist in H.M.S. Pinafore (Yale Gilbert and Sullivan Society, 2010), and he is forever grateful to Cousin H**e for introducing him to G&S. When not singing G&S, he is usually singing Renaissance polyphony with Convivium Musicum, and he has been enjoying this spring’s musical journey from sixteenth-century Europe to twenty-fourth-century space (by way of Victorian England).

HMS Pinafore returns this Thursday, May 10th at 8:00 PM. Tickets are selling fast, get yours at http://tickets.mit.edu

Dear friends of MITG&SP,

As some of you may know, in recent years MITG&SP has been struggling to bring more MIT students into the group. This year, the ASA has decided to crack down on groups with low student membership, with the unhappy result that MITG&SP is being officially derecognized at the end of the school year.

At the moment, we on the executive board are not 100% sure what this will mean for the future of MITG&SP. We may still be able to continue as an arm of another student theatre group or as an independent community theatre organization. We may also be able to interest enough students to be re-recognized. In any case, we will be going on hiatus for at least the summer season.

If you are an MIT student or a prospective MIT student who has enjoyed working with or seeing productions by MITG&SP, please consider being a part of future productions and/or joining the executive board. It can be any level of commitment. If we can boost our student membership we can be rerecognized.

For the past 30 years, MITG&SP has benefitted greatly from our wonderful supporters. Whether you've been onstage, backstage, in the orchestra, or in the audience, and whether you've seen 1 show or 60, you are the reason MITG&SP has been able to continue for so long. We hope you've enjoyed being a part of our community and we very much hope we will be able to continue bringing you new and innovative productions of your favorite G&S shows.

You can still catch us for four more productions of HMS Pinafore: The Next Generation , today at 2:00 pm, Thursday and Friday at 8:00 pm, or Saturday at 2:00 pm. We hope to see you there.

Sincerely,
The Executive Board of MITG&SP
Isaac Metcalf, President
Helen Read, Treasurer
Rossana Chung, Secretary
Rebecca Graber, Publicity Officer
Meghan Jolliffe, Social Chair
Tom Ostrowski, Member-at-Large
