Ikeda Center for Peace, Learning, and Dialogue

Ikeda Center for Peace, Learning, and Dialogue The Ikeda Center is an institute for peace, learning, and dialogue located in Cambridge, Massachusetts.

Since 1993, the Ikeda Center's core practice has been to engage scholars, students, spiritual practitioners, social innovators, and others in openhearted and open-minded dialogue in pursuit of a shared vision for future progress and well being. To this end, we organize and conduct seminars and public forums designed to cultivate the "humble willingness to learn from others" that Center founder Dai

saku Ikeda identifies as "profoundly meaningful, invariably fostering deep, empathetic connections." We also publish dialogue and other multi-author books focused on this same goal of creating a shared vision for global well being.

30 years ago on this day, Center founder Daisaku Ikeda delivered a speech at Teachers College, Columbia University, titled “Thoughts on Education for Global Citizenship”. In it, Mr. Ikeda describes the core attributes of global citizenship as wisdom, courage, and compassion. He also emphasizes the important role each of us can play in fostering global citizens. As we reflect on this milestone today, we are deepening our commitment to actualize his vision through all of our programs, as well as in our daily lives towards the next 30 years and beyond.

Please join us on Thursday, July 16 at 7:00pm ET on Zoom for the 2026 Indigo Talk with Dr. Anita Patterson, Professor of English at Boston University!

Dr. Patterson’s talk coincides with the publication of Daisaku Ikeda, Transnationalism, and American Literature: Dialogues of the Heart (Routledge, May 2026), which was edited by Dr. Patterson and published in association with the Center. In her lecture, Dr. Patterson will explore Daisaku Ikeda’s engagement with literature as a core element of his broader philosophy and as a vital component of his global peacebuilding vision.

Join us for Dialogue Nights on compassion in ONE WEEK! (Fri, May 15 @ 7pm) 🤗

This upcoming Dialogue Nights will be the first in a three-part series exploring wisdom, courage, and compassion, core attributes that Center founder Daisaku Ikeda identified as essential for global citizenship.

On compassion, he writes, “Compassion in Buddhism does not involve the forcible suppression of our natural emotions, our likes and dislikes. Rather, it is to realize that even those we dislike have qualities that can contribute to our lives and can afford us opportunity to grow in our own humanity.”

Doors open at 6:30pm for a pre-event reception with food! On the menu: cornflake crusted buffalo chicken bites, parmesan brussels sprouts, veg samosas, and more!

Open to college students and people in their 20s and 30s.

We hope to see you there! RSVP: https://www.ikedacenter.org/events/dialogue-nights
