We are excited to welcome our new co-presidents for 2017-2018, Sara Mead and Victoria Lee! A little bit about them:

Victoria Lee is a first year MBA student at MIT Sloan. At Sloan, she is also part of VR/AR@MIT and Senate. She previously worked at Microsoft and Boston Scientific, and earned her undergraduate degree at Boston University. She founded a nonprofit chapter in NYC to increase the number of women and girls in technology. She’s looking forward to co-leading with Sara Mead and hope that SWIM can serve as a central nexus and springboard for many Sloan women.

Sara Mead is a first-year MBA student at MIT Sloan where she is on the leadership team of the Hacking Arts Conference and Management Consulting Club. She is a graduate of the University of Pennsylvania and prior to Sloan worked in online advertising. She is looking forward to co-leading SWIM with Victoria Lee and plans to create an environment where Sloan women feel supported, connected, celebrated and inspired.

As women, we are fortunate enough that work discrimination based on gender is illegal in the US. But, it is still legal in 28 states in America to fire someone based on their sexual orientation or gender identity. More than 70 countries still criminalize homosexuality.

Join the Sloan LGBTQ club and all other business schools in the country signing an equality pledge in which you, as future business leaders, promise not to discriminate on the basis of sexually orientation and gender identity, regardless of the laws of the place you're living!

The SWIM leadership team is excited to announce that Aileen Hagerman and Liz Lucero will serve as Co-Presidents during the 2016-2017 school year! Join us in congratulating them. We know they'll accomplish great things next year.

A little about each of them:

Aileen is part of the MBA class of 2017, and (despite the occasional –20°F windchill) excited to be back in the Boston area, where she completed her undergrad at Wellesley College in 2010. While she is originally from the DC metropolitan area, she has called San Francisco her home for the past 4+ years, where she worked for Google, most recently in their operations strategy team. Her long-term plans include entrepreneurship, and she is enthusiastic about being at Sloan and taking advantage of the wealth of resources and knowledge available here. On weekends, her hobbies include perfecting the chocolate chip cookie recipe, understanding the science behind baking, and of course eating delicious food. She looks forward to working with our members this year and helping build a strong SWIM community!

Liz hails from Weston, Massachusetts, about 13 miles west of Sloan! After completing her undergrad in Washington, DC back in 2011, Liz moved to Chile and then Argentina where she worked as an executive headhunter. She came to Sloan to make a career change and this summer she will intern in management consulting. Outside of work and school, Liz is a rugby enthusiast (8 year playing career, life-long obsession) and enjoys spending quality time with her Argentine-street-dog-lab-mix, Cooper. Since starting at Sloan, Liz has been an active SWIM member and she is thrilled to assume the role of Co-President. She hopes to continue to uphold the legacy of SWIM and focus the club’s efforts on the issues and initiatives in which our Sloan community is most interested!
