HarvardxDesign

HarvardxDesign HxD is a student led effort to bring together innovators from all industries and students from every field to engage in and reinterpret the design process.

The xDesign Club at the Graduate School of Design is a group dedicated to exploring a wide range of design careers. We are a group that is committed to understanding the business of design in its entirety. Our goal is to understand how business and design work together to create successful enterprises, while also discovering the myriad of possibilities open to us as design professionals. We want t

o look beyond our areas of study at the Graduate School of Design to learn about allied industries and careers. In order to reach beyond our programs, we work with groups like the Harvard Business School’s Design Club and Harvard College’s Springboard group. We believe in embracing the Harvard network across colleges to better understand the value of design across disciplines.

RECAP Workshop: Service Design in An Uncertain World

Services saturate our daily lives—yet we rarely pause to question their origins. In this energizing morning workshop, Other Tomorrows explored service design’s role in our uncertain world. We traced its roots, examined its current impacts, and discovered how to design services more intentionally—minimizing harm while amplifying the positive effects on people and society.

✨ RECAP — Panel 3: Re-imagine ✨

In our final panel, Re-imagine, we explored how design can serve as a speculative and provocative tool to envision plural futures that break away from conventional paradigms. Our distinguished panelists—Alix Ge**er , Stuart Candy, Raafat Majzoub , and Jazsalyn , shared insights on expanding the realm of what‘s possible through design. The discussion was skillfully moderated by Johanna Hoffman .

This conversation underscored the power of design to not only reflect our current realities but also to challenge and transform them, imagining futures that are inclusive, equitable, and innovative.

✨ Panel 2: Re-alize ✨
In our second panel, Re-alize, we delved into the ways design can challenge existing biases in our built environment, policies, and technologies. Our esteemed panelists—Joseph Coughlin , Lindsay Harkema , Sami Sikanas, and Damon Rich shared insights on creating more inclusive and just design practices. The discussion was skillfully moderated by Mariana Alegre , a Harvard GSD Loeb Fellow.

This conversation underscored the importance of critically examining our present-day systems and the role of design in unveiling and addressing inherent biases.
