Cambridge Cooperative Club The Cambridge Cooperative Club is a multi-generational housing coop that has been committed to living

The Cambridge Cooperative Club is, and is always becoming, a joyful and realistic alternative example of how to live ecologically sustainable lives concerned with peace and justice while remaining open to learning from each other and the world. We are eleven people committed to supporting and inspiring one another; we live in a community guided by consensus, in a house that is neither owned nor rented, with roots of ecological sustainability and social justice going back to 1963.

In addition to our immediate opening, we anticipate welcoming new house members over the course of the upcoming year, as the effects of the pandemic wane. Move-in dates are ASAP and flexible. We also welcome inquiries for anticipated spring opening and inquiries for the summer months or start of the next academic year.

The Cambridge Cooperative Club is a multi-generational housing coop that has been committed to living together intentionally since 1943. We are seeking cooperative-minded people to join us in the new year.

The cooperative has been at its current address between Harvard and Porter Squares since 1963. We live in a three story, eleven bedroom house, tucked away in a wonderful residential neighborhood near Harvard Divinity School, Harvard Law School, and Lesley University. Public transit, restaurants, and stores are all very accessible within a short walking distance.

We strive to cultivate a space that supports diversity and inclusion, where all members feel at home. The house is currently host to a range of gender expressions, sexualities, ages (20s–90s), races, and ethnicities. Since its founding in 1943, the coop has been a home to teachers, musicians, writers, researchers, students, farmers, dancers, restaurateurs, and more.

The monthly cost to live in the house is approximately $800/month and includes dues, all utilities, food, and supplies. We share groceries (communal food is vegetarian) and take turns cooking a weekly communal dinner attended by everyone (with vegan options). Contributing to chores (~2.5hr/week) and participating in weekly house gatherings are essential parts of living in our household.

Covid-19 Note: As we navigate this moment of crisis, we have implemented policies that prioritize the health and safety of our community, including the most vulnerable members of our household and our wider contact network. We live together as a pod, and potential opportunities of contact and exposure such as travel are followed by quarantine and testing. The move-in process will be handled with the same care and attention to safely welcome new members.

The coop has been a space of support for social justice work, ecological living, and affordable housing. We regularly host events (outside of current circumstances). In the past, these events have included screenings, jam-sessions , art project gatherings, potlucks, workshops, having buddhist monks and marching bands for sleepovers, and the occasional celebratory party.

Being part of an intentional community requires house members to commit to being present and active in the life of the house. This minimally includes the following:
- Participating in communal dinners (each Wednesday)
- House meetings twice a month (second and fourth Monday evenings)
- Assigned weekly chores related to cleaning, fixing, organizing, cooking, shopping ( 2.5h / week)
- Committee work related to short-term planning or long-term planning
- A weekend-long house retreat once per year, typically in the spring.

Pets, smoking, and illegal drugs are not allowed in the house.

Congratulations to our new mayor, Mayor Siddiqui of Cambridge, Massachusetts!

Elected to the City Council together two years ago and remaining linked in the public’s mind by partnering on hosting the “Women Are Here” podcast, Siddiqui and Mallon rise to the roles of mayor and vice mayor for a term loaded with issues of housing, race and the arts.

Have you been priced out of an apartment or otherwise affected by the skyrocketing cost of housing in Massachusetts?!

If so, the MA Association of Housing Cooperatives wants to hear from you! On Tuesday, Jan 14th at 10:30am the state legislature's Housing Committee will consider the Tenants Opportunity to Purchase proposal. This state legislation would ensure that, when a large apartment building comes up for sale, residents have the opportunity to organize and purchase it as a cooperative.

If you'd like to share your testimony in support of this legislation, please contact Jon Seward at [email protected]
