Charles came to us over fifteen years ago, and his journey of growth and discovery has been incredible. When he first contacted us, he was a disillusioned youth, who scratched out a meager living, carrying people's garbage on his back to the landfill outside the town. It was hard work with extremely low pay.

We interviewed Charles as to his aspirations and dreams and discovered that he has a talent for drawing and design. We further instructed him to leave his work and to spend two weeks assembling a portfolio of his best graphic and design work, and that led to a job as a freshman designer with a graphics firm! (The first photo dates back to those days.)

Charles worked in this field for nearly a decade, then boldly left Ghana and moved to the UK, where he had to start from the beginning again. He did so as a night-shift security guard, and discovered that he likes security work. He has since regularly attended courses furthering his knowledge of safety and security, and is now weighing his options. Should he become a police officer, detective, security manager, or go all the way and start working towards a law degree? The choices are endless!

In the meantime, he is sponsoring the three growing children he rescued from a house fire many years ago in Ghana. They lost their parents in the fire, and Charles's big sister Grace stepped in to become their new mother, which she remains to this day. Generosity and heroism runs in this family!

This is Sanni, one of our most dynamic and motivated kids in Africa. He came to us nine years ago as a homeless youth, and has been an inspiring hard worker and budding philanthropist. He was instrumental in organizing our largest safe house in the Ibadan, Nigeria area, where multiple orphans receive care, a family, and a chance at an education and at breaking out of poverty. Sanni is incredibly eager to learn, and is a software engineering student. A year ago we suggested to him to use his computer skills to open a freelance graphic design business, and within a week he had it set up and had signed up his first client! He has personally rescued multiple abandoned children and brought them into the safe house, where he has been a loving and nurturing father to all. He is engaged to Muti, who came to us seven years ago needing shelter and security, and who has grown into a talented aspiring designer of ladies' fashions. The safe house has had its share of hard times, and tragically, we have lost several people in the group, but there is no lessening of the group's support and love for one another, and its determination to move forward and to succeed.

Richard came to us some twenty years ago as a young man with a lively imagination and big ambitions for his life. He was a freshman travel agent, and has refined his knowledge of the travel industry over the years and specializes in helping corporate clients obtain visas for overseas business travel. Seven years ago, he bought a fallow piece of land and has been busily turning it into a productive farm, growing staple vegetable and root/tuber crops, as well as luxury crops such as cashews. With our assistance, he was able to register the farm as a nonprofit educational foundation, to help young people learn the techniques of crop farming, and to help perpetuate the development of young farmers to address Nigeria's growing need for non-GMO foodstuffs. Richard is a very serious young man, who has approached both the physical work on his farm, as well as its educational opportunities with energy and determination.

Lots of updates! Agyei has taken parental custody of two orphaned siblings, whom he has named Princess Agyei, and Little Agyei. "Big" Agyei supports them with his IT work, which he performs as an independent contractor with a growing list of private and corporate repeat clients. To supplement those earnings, he is preparing for certification to drive an Uber car.

Agyei was the very first of our African kids, and came to us nearly 25 years ago at the tender age of 15! He has had to overcome significant challenges in his life, ranging from being mugged to overcoming malaria and other illnesses. We are thrilled, that he has honored the commitment we ask for from all of our kids, namely to learn a trade or profession and to work hard, and finally, to pass the help forward by adopting or caring for one or several other children who need someone to give them a boost early in life. Agyei has taken the care of his two children very seriously, and is a much loved and in-demand father with them. We wish him every success in life.

Our very own Ayo is on his way to a career in aviation! Two weeks ago, he left Nigeria for South Africa, and he is about to start flying classes. The first day there, he proudly sent photos of his dorm accommodations, of some of the airplanes the school owns, of "Bunny", the four legged school mascot and of the surrounding countryside. Today he is just miserable, as it is the first cool day with about 49 degrees, with the approaching winter in South Africa!
You can see him at the Nairobi airport on his way to South Africa, a few photos of the flight school, and Ayo today, shivering wondering why it is so cold! Well, he DID spend his entire life in Lagos, Nigeria, where the average year-round temperature is 80 and where it frequently goes into triple digits but rarely below 75! We had an on-line discussion today to teach him the secrets of layered clothing, gore-tex, thinsulate and cold weather survival, all of them completely new concepts to him.

In the meantime, if you are able to provide help via a tax-deductible donation, please do so. We have children in Ghana and Nigeria waiting to be helped. Please feel free to contact or use the donate button at the top of the page. Thank you so much!
